Air Filter Bolts won't Come off!

I have a stock air filter and I can't remove two of the bolts that hold the cover on. They just spin and won't loosen. How do I get them off? Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated. I'll attach a picture. it is the two that are cicled in red (i borrowed the pic from another post) Thanks for the help!

yes they do spin a little. 4 me it was like this: they came up a little bit then started to spin in place. Then I just grabbed them with my finger and pulled up on it a little and started to untighten it w/ my hand. Then it grabbed againg and stopped spinning, in which case I just slapped the 8mm back on the socket and continued going to town. Remember, pull up on the bolt if its spinning in place. and continue to untighten w/ ur hand until it grabbs again... Rep me

JCiv03 is on a distinguished road
If they're already all spinning and you can't unbolt it anymore.. you can either
a) take off the lid by lifting it up (the screws can stay in the lid)
b) you can take out the screws completely by lifting it up and unscrewing it up hand.

Hope this helps!

i was under the impression that they dont even come off? Like they just unscrew all the way but continue spinning. THen you just lift off the cover.

This may not be true, but this is what i recall.

I know that they don't come off the cover. The problem is they won't unscrew from the base. My best guess is that the nuts that hold the bolt to the base has come loose and is just spinning. Am i going to have to cut them off? what should I do?

sounds like the airbox is busted...if the screws are over-torqued the housing will break

So will I have to replace the whole airbox? If so, do i replace it with the stock one, or or is there a good aftermarket one that you guys recomend.

No you don't have to go that far. It is pretty easy to remove the air box, it's been a while since I did it, but I think only three bolts hold it in place. See if you can find them (there maybe more than 3 thoguh) once the air box is off, you should be able to fasten the nuts that have broken loose and undo the bolt.
