Exclamation [UPDATES - DEALER] Help me! Relay problem? Cable shorted??

Hi guys!

original complete story:
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=220234

to sum up the problem that I'm having:

currently, I can start my car properly (pheew)...all lights (turning lights, hazard lights, taillight) are all working properly......when the car is started.

the problem is, when i turned my car off, i can't turn on the small light (the one lit before the big headlight)...i can't use my hazard light.....which also means...if I lock my car with remote, the turning light won't lit up...

main suspect: two fuses are blown, fuse number 2 and 5.....the problem is, if i plug in the back-up fuse, the dash-light problem (explained in the complete story) will all lit up....and i can't start my car....

possible action: is it possible that the the relay (turn lights/hazard relay and/or taillight relay) might be the culprit?

i checked hondaautomotiveparts, they're about $9 on the dealer...not a bad deal to try it out before going to dealer....however, that's for turninglight/hazard relay....i didn't see anything about taillight relay which is connected to fuse number 5

what should i do before giving my car up to honda dealer?

thanx!
-cal

FYI: All information about relay and fuses are gathered from Haynes Book for our 01-04 Civic

no.....no at all...

there's only remote power lock...which actually connected to fuse number 2 (or 5) based on haynes book..

have you ever had your headlight switch replaced ? there was a tsb about them frying the wires. Maybe the fried wires caused a short in your steering column. It may be worth a look.

thanx again for the reply.....but.......

i didn't recently put my stereo......i put it a year ago...and everything was completely fine...

like i explained, there's really no problem with the (big) headlight.....i can still turn them on when the engine turned off.....the problem, is the small lights (turning lights).....

i can't turned on my hazard light when the car is off............

im suspecting the relay.......

Yeah ide say replace the relay and go from there, if its not that it sound like it could be something that your going to have to give up the car for a little while.

unscrew it, there's a phillips screw at the bottom then that whole fuse box slides down and u can get to them so much easier, u can use a phillips screwdriver or a 10mm socket to get that bolt

yo, thanx again buddy..

i took it out...........*what a BIattchhh*

i tried to plug the fuses (2 and 5) in...but they still reacted the same

now i doubt relay is the problem..........HOWEVER.....when i use the hazard light.....it blips normally for about 4 blips...and then, there's a "brrrpppp" noise coming from the relay........as if it's gonna explode, LOL

maybe i should replace it? maybe it's the problem?

UPDATE: now i suspect the relay as the culprit.......

when i turn on the dim light w/o key on II position.....the gauge doesn't lit....the dim lite doesn't lit.....the back dim brake light doesn't lit...

only when i put the key into position II, everything works normally

UPDATE II

i just played around with the fuses........so,

1. if i plug in fuse 2 and fuse 5.....even though the gauge indicator all lit up and i can't start my car.....the dim light, brake light, and gauge light are all working normally..

2. (I HOPE THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM) when fuse 2 and 5 plugged in, in addition to point 1, the power lock (remote) didn't work!!

3. seems like it's more than the relay....the relay probably burnt out too.....but i think there's something more than that...

tomrrow i'll try to change the relay.......see what's gonna happen....

From experience, relays are all or nothing. There is no in between flakey on them. You can test the relay with a digital multimeter so you don't have to go replacing unnecessary parts.

I should add that a rapid clicking of the relays would indicate that there isn't enough power going to them. Look for poor battery cable connections, use steel wool on the clamps and posts.

i was thinking that...hey, maybe it's loosing power? no...i tried it again with my car started.....exactly the same thing....the hazard light dies....and there's a fast click on the relay........brrrrppp clicking noise....if u can imagine....lol

that's only hazard light though....left and right turn light are all ok....

I dont know how your dealer is, but mine charges $45 to diagnose a problem. Maybe you should take it there. $45 aint much.

make sure you rewire everything exactly where it goes. One wire in the wrong place could short out the ECM and burn up other wires.

^thanx man..

but i think i would rather to hand this thing to the mechanic on my local Honda..

don't want to mess any sh~t anymore............

im also afraid that..........maybe there's a bad relay somewhere.... this way, the mechanic can also check out if there's anything wrong..

FYI...

i also took out my 04 tail conversion for the time being.......
i took out the amp power cable too....

just to back-step....and make sure everything smooth...

i miss my car so much........

Bad news for me.......................................

the technician tried to replace it, but there are still problems happened.............

i didn't get the chance to talk to the mechanic, but the service manager told me that.....Brent, the technician got himself in a dead-end....he can't solve the problem anymore..

So, tomorrow...He's gonna call California, where Honda engineers HQ are located. He's gonna ask them whats going on and what to do.

Boy..........I really want to cry now..........*sigh*

*deep sigh*

maybe they're gonna put this problem on a service bulletin, issue a recall......and replace my car with a new one! hwuahahahaha

*sigh* just want to make myself happy....lol

Why would a tech give up like that. Dont hondas have master techs and shop foremans who have been doing stuff like this for years. I am sure someone that works there can solve the problem. Anyway, good luck man.

Very sorry to hear about your problem. Sorry if I missed this, but what caused the problem? Did it just randomly start or did you do something or change anything in your electrical system that caused it?
