Car shuts off when driving?

I was drag racing last week at the track and right at the end of my run my car shut off completely. I first should say that I am spraying a 50 shot with bottle heater. Im pretty sure the car shut down after I let off the gas and I lost all power (steering, brakes, etc). My oil light came on as did my battery light but I had no CEL . I just coasted to the end of track and turned and pulled over. I thought I blew something like a headgasket or something else but when I popped my hood everything was fine. My battery charge indicator was green meaning it was fully charged. I got back in my car and it started right back up with no warning lights or CEL.

This has happened only one other time when I sprayed for like 5 seconds to show my girlfriend what nitrous felt like but I was close enough to her house I just coasted then. I cannot figure out what is causing this to happen. My engine runs and works fine a week later from my track ordeal. I've been spaying since March. WHYS MY CAR SHUTTING OFF?!?!?!

Well if the oil pressure light comes on, it means there is a serious problem. I'm not sure about what the nitrous is doing, but I think the car shuts off if there isn't enough oil pressure to lube the engine. If it didn't shut off those times, you would prolly need a new motor. I would say something wrong with the nitrous install or check your oil level.

Do our cars shut off automatically when oil pressure is too low? I don't think its an oil pressure problem because my oil level is perfect and its not knocking or ticking so I dont' think its done any damage. Is it possible that I wired it wrong and I'm drawing too much power from my fuse box because I have 3 wires wired to the 12volt PS in the fuse box. I don't think the system draws that much power from my car except maybe the bottle heater? I think I may email Nitrous Express and see what they think.

No it shut off about 2 months ago when I was with my Girlfriend. I changed some stuff with my wiring and it hadn;t done it since last week.

It then happened last week so I drove around for a week to make sure there was nothing wrong and it runs great so basically I have no clue.

Well all I can say is that my car did the same thing and I started it back up and drove some more and BOOM! I threw a rod and blew a hole in my block the size of a cell phone. So basically you might want to get it checked out. My $.02.

Well you know it might have to deal with developing methane in your oil.. you knwo when you run nos you can develop tiny bubbles of methane gas, and say one of those hit a sensor, it could cause the sensor to temporaraly fail, and the car sees that and shuts off? But then again, you could do what 2k2civ34 did and the boom was the methane exploding throwing the rod.. hince try changing your oil after every single time you use NOS2.. just a thought

Well I have an 01 too and the others i've looked at in past forums seem to be 01 civics as well. I dont' think the nitrous has anythign to do with it because my plugs don't show any detonation or anything and my oil is fine. It may be that when we have it floored for like 15 secs in WOT and just let off real quick it may flood the engine wiht fuel and shut off? I have no idea.

2k2civ34, whats the complete story with yours shutting off and then blowing up after u started it. What mods did you have?

I had an AEM cai, and DC sports header. Driving down the road my car was shutting off and I kept starting it back up and then one time I guess it had enough and blew up, but it was under warrenty, so they got me a new motor.

You do know that when you run NOS2 your car is burning in a lean state right? If your car isnt properly tuned to handle NOS2, you can do lots of things. Blow up, burn a whole in the piston, not function properly... and on top of things you said you were running a 50 shot? god bles it. Im supprised that engine has lasted that long. Try upgrading the fuel delivery system, and then give it bigger zap to get all that burning, and then see how your engine runs. Its probably killing its self cause it doenst like it when people dont know how to tune their cars.

Look man I don't mean to be rude or anything but you have no idea what you are talking about. Ive done my homework on using nitrous for our cars for over a year before I bought it. A member on here posted a dyno of the same kit i am using with 50 shot and the AF ratio was very good the whole way through the power band untuned so i know its not leaning out and also because I check my plugs after I use nitrous everytime to check for problems. The Nitrous Express kits is one of the best kits on the market. Also, a 50 shot is nothing compared to several members running 75 shots and 80 shots on stock internals.

Civic_RedLine will become famous soon enough
ur running too rich, I had few problems like that but it was only becuase the bottle pressure was low meaning more fuel than nitrous because it isnt at the right level. Nothing happend to my car either.

Ehhh, my bottle pressure was around 900 or so. I don't think I would have ran a 14.7 if I was running rich. Is it possible that when I let off real quick, that it keeps dumping fuel for a split second and floods it?
