different types of exhaust resonators

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

after helping my friend install his axle-back portion of his exhaust system on his integra, i decided to take a gander under my car, just out of curiosity. first of all, i was suprised at seeing the stock resonator (looked like a can-type... do they call them that?). it was actually a lot bigger than i thought; ive always thought that exhaust resonators were just all the same, like the bullet-type ive seen on a lot of cars. anyways, my other friend (with a civic) ripped off his stock exhaust resonator (yeah, its loud, too loud for my taste) and is running resonator-less back to the stock muffler. i suggested him getting another one, maybe the bullet-type to quiet the tone down, but he said that he wanted sound with the stock muffler (......).

now, simplyout of my own curiosity, are the canister-type exhaust resonators designed to suppress the exhaust note more than the bullet type? if my friend were to install a bullet-type in place of the removed stock one, would the tone still be louder than stock but not as freakishly annoying as it is now?

that sounds correct dude. but the best way to go is a cat-back. has all that stuff in one kit. piping, resonator, and muffler. and it will sound better than peicing one together too.

i swapped my bullet resonator for a baffle resonator. they both look the same but the baffle is much quieter. i don't know what the inside if the baffle one looks like but the bullet one has fins on the inside.

eh, never mind, saw that they were the same.

so in answering my question (rather, my friend's question), it wouldnt sound like crap if the canister-type was replaced with a bullet type, now would it? but, it WOULD be louder/deeper, blah blah blah?
