OEM Spoiler: New Trunk Springs

I am attempting to install an OEM spoiler. The instructions call for the removal of the existing trunk springs. They also state that a trunk spring installer/remover is required. Has anyone here done this? Is there a more typical tool I could use besides the trunk spring installer/remover because I don't have one? Is this even necessary?

I dont think it's necessary.... my trunk never really "popped" open when i pulled the latch when it no spoiler but after the install, it just didnt jump up as much... just opens up a little bit.

Same here I never changed the spring and have had no problem. It has been on for about a year and a half or so.

true. Good point I will keep my eye on it and see. The provided springs seem more like one of Honda's ploys to charge more for dealer installation.

the springs are different on civics that have spoilers...but it is not really necessary...it is just to ensure that the hood does not drop close as easily as the springs used for trunks with spoilers...

Hey listen up everyone.... Just my opinion here..

i got a spoiler and had the stock springs... Well on a gusty day if the wind hits the trunk while lets say your taking out groceries youll wind up getting it right in the face ...

I replaced the springs and now my trunk has a very nice POP to it it opens half way and the with my pinky i just flip it and it pops up and says there firmly....

Get the springs and get them installed by Honda like I did ..best money I ever spent man...

I love how it pops open know....
