Rep Power: 0 How much more HP?
Last weekend i installed a short ram AEM V2 intake, NGK iridium spark plugs, and a straight pipe exhaust and i was just wondering how much more HP i would gain from those. my car is an EX so its 127 stock hp. oh and i dont know if it would make a difference or not if i use 91 octane...

Rep Power: 0 higher octane gas is just cleaner so dont waste yur money buying that gas for our cars. yeah at best 5 horsepower....MAYBE to the crank. remember that 127 is at the crankshaft. when it gets to the wheels we only have about 100 horsepower to the front wheels. so if u end up getting I/H/E you MIGHT end up with 115-120 at best, and thats including a flywheel and a few other bells and whistles. i made the mistake of thinking i could make my car fast when i got it, but ive learned that its better to go for th elook, but i'm stubborn and gonna boost it when i got $$$$.

Rep Power: 285 the octane question was just asked a while ago. the guy is getting pinging noises from the engine (more than likely from the 91) so don't put that in your car.
as for horsepower + or - 2hp

the answer about his pingin noise comming from his engine is because the controled burn in the cylinder has reached max pressure btdc thus creating detonation...not to mention destorying the piston

Rep Power: 285 who said i was talking about the octane hp? didn't he also ask about the other **** added? thats what i was talking about.
search before you open up your damn mouth again n00b. we already said the octane wasn't good for our cars. SEARCH, thats why i said it's already been discussed.

If anyone wants to know the real purpose of octain ratings here it is: The higher the octain the slower it burns. High compression engines like sports cars require high octain fuel to prevent spark knock (pinging or pre-ignition) octain Economy cars are for economy and that means cheap gas lilke 87 octain. And 87 actually has less additives than 89 or 93. This is why Outboard motor companies (boat motors) suddgest running 87 octain due to the low deposits it leaves on the top of the pistions, this is important because 2-stroke engines have alot of deposits because oil is mixed into the fuel to lubricate engine parts instead of having a crankcase with motor oil in it. I think your best bang for the buck is a 50 shot on a stock ex, it will be reliable if hooked up properly and not abused. By the time one spends the money on full exhaust, headers, intake and flash blinky lights they have already reached the price of a 50 shot, and the car will be much faster, quiter and get better fuel economy. Just my thoughts though. But to answer your question, no, 91 octain will just cost you 10 cents more a gallon. Hope this helps.
