DIY.. Reducing Weight in Door Panels
i did this cause i was bored on my 2004 Civic Coupe..
ok here it is..thought i should do something on this forum since ive been here so long
Diy...Reducing Weight in Door Panel
1.Remove the door handle...u have to pop a tiny panel to revel the screw
2.Remove the rod
3.Remove the power window switches...theres a tiny panel to revel the screw
4.Pull it out and behind it, it will reveal 2 more screws
5.Now u should be able to pop the door panel out
6.Ok, now it's out
7.Flip the door panel upside-down so it will reveal all the foam blocks
8.Ok pull out all the foam blocks
9.Now the door panel should be some what lighter
10.Now reassemble the door panel

and if it did you could always hot glue it back on (WHICH I HIGHLY DOUBT WILL EVER HAPPEN)
but rattling that is totally
Honda put it there for reninforcement so the panel wont come all sluggish but it felt the same after i did the DIY..nice and stiff
Try it...

Yeah honda only puts that foam in for crash protection. Stupid circuit city took em out when installing dynamat. It's better to have them on.
really.....how can foam help?? it is like sticking to the door and when the door get in a accident the panel could just pop out and hurt u..while now..with the foam removed there is this air gap and now it will take a serious beat to the door to make that panel push out..and if it does it wont fly out making it less likely for you to buy a new panel because the old panel cracked or something
by the way..that is why there are the side bars in the door.. that is the only part that protects u in the event of a side collision

when i first readt the topic it said LIGHTING... so i was thinking u somehow added lights to the door or something... after further investigation it seems it was wactually door LIGHTENING..lol
impact foam on doors panels?? wont that cause more injury because the force of a impact could punch that sucker out but then again w/o the foam there is relativly no worrys or less damgae done to panel
is any1 gonna do this
because when u slap on a fat intercooler u take out crash support so what does the foam in the panels provide NONE!! because the side beams is what protects u

Yeah I really don't care about little crash stuff. Mine are out anyway and the styrofoam is cracked from taking off the bumper. If someone hits you, a piece of foam isn't gonna help you or the car much. Maybe it helps for sound deadening tho by covering those big holes.
I'm actually planning on increasing the weight of my doors by packing them with sound dampening material (felt padding and Cascade VB2). I like the solid feel.
Generally, for every 10-15 lbs of weight you add, you lose 1 hp. So, be adding 10 lbs of sound dampening material to the doors and side panels, I'm only going to lose at most 1 hp, and it will cut down on road noise/midbase reflection.

Wow... 16.5... I'm impressed... Maybe with a few stickers it'd be down to 16 flat... Seriously, those foam pieces are there for a purpose. They are a sound dampening material, along with being a side impact precaution. To say they do noghing in the event of a crash is ludicrous. The panels will not pop-off without them in there? Umm... ok, they are there to absorb the impact between the door skin and the door panel. That is their purpose.
The foam helps i'm sure. If you remove the foam from under your front bumper you wont pass vehicle safety inspection. It's structural foam for impact dissapation.
And why the fu(k would you want to go through all that just to save like 2oz. I think if you just took the time to do that install and instead walked around your block you'd not only lose 2oz you'd also be healthier

I did a full body lightening on my 'Vic, and now run with no doors, side or quarter panels, trunk lid, hood, or roof. Yeah, I'm definitely pimping it now, gentlemen. I'm pulling at LEAST 15.7 on the track, but hey, I only use a little metronome to time it so I guess that's mostly a guess. You guys should really try throwing away 3/4 of your car, and get rid of all that stupid "safety" stuff... IT'S HEAVY!
I was doing 16.0 for a while, but then I went down to the parts store and picked up neuspeed, AEM, injen, MoMo, and a few other types of stickers and affixed them to my bare frame. Now I'm riding low and fast, baby. You'd be surprised what a difference steal-me-stickers make, even on a vehicle with no mods! (I mean, other than stripping it down to the frame, of course LOLOL!!)

I'm all for weight reduction, but I'd have to agree with everyone else. Foam is only a few ounces. Now removing it in conjunction with the entire door panels and their contents would be more reasonable to me. Maybe save 5-10lbs per door that way. Now remove a whole bunch of other things around that same weight and you'll find it adds up quick and can make a significant difference in acceleration, braking and handling.
A few ounces are not gonna make a difference.
