Initial impressions after removing power steering not bad at all
It's been 2 days and it really isn't bad. You can't even tell once your moving unless your taking a 90 degree turn at 10 mph. It only gets hard after about a half turn. Even then it's not that hard. I can do it one handed, not recommended though. With torque steer in a corner it could get away from you without both hands if you gas it.
Parking can be a bitch. Tried a 3 point turn, ended up a 5 point.
As far as swerving to avoid an accident (someone flamed me for this) not a problem, because like I said it doesn't get hard till a 1/2 turn which is enough to avoid an accident or something in the road.
Oh I forgot to mention the gain felt from this.
One guy said he dynoed an extra 10hp without it.
Don't know for sure, but I like it. Quite a bit on the butt dyno!!!
estimate 5hp maybe??
Revs and accelerates noticably quicker.
Quick enough for me to leave it off for good.
So to the haters and flamers
don't knock **** until you try it or are man enough to handle it.

no PS belt is seperate. (The outside one). Alternator and AC share a different belt. I got the AEM Alternator pulley but haven't installed it yet. That might add another 1-3hp? That comes with a new belt since the pulley is larger.

To answer the previous question, Yes you can put it back on but it's a pain in the ***. It's very easy to get the alignment wrong and then you'll wind up throwing a belt or doing more permanant damage to the other parts.
I've driven my car without the belt on before and it's not that much fun at all. To each their own if they want the extra work driving their cars this way but remember...
a car that was made to have power steering will not behave as one that was made without it.

I saw an article at Sport Compact where they dynoed 4.7 RWHP on a 95 Ex just by removing the belt. Thats a lot and well worth it I THINK. Its like doubling the power of an AEM SRI !..but actually, I think it will increase the power of a SRI because the engine will rev faster.

4.7 rwhp, hm? Either mustangs started making a top secret ex model in 95 or the civic's front driveshafts jumped off the tranny, ran to the back and locked itself to the rear wheelsalso, it doesn't rev faster ... it "revs faster" if you are in gear because you have more hp

it won't increase the power of an sri ... this post is too funny
note ... you are not actually gaining horsepower, per se ... but you are not losing as much to the drivetrain loss

Anyone try it yet?
I went for a spirited drive on some winding roads tonight and damn was it fun. It's kinda scary but oh so fun at the same time. The car accelerates quite faster than prior to removal. Even in in daily driving it just seems to glide and want to drive itself.
i am very satisfied and have no intentions of ever going back. Parking lots can be a bitch but worth the sacrafice.

Well, slow speed turning is a bit stiff but the butt dyno is definitely impressed. Normal driving felt just fine, only tough turns were really parking. My friend ran me with his mom's Blazer and noticed that my car took off faster than before.
your still a ****ing moron. and anyone who is actually thinking about doing this is a ****ing moron as well. i cant believe i even have to say this, LEAVE YOUR POWER STERRING BELTS ON. THE ONLY CARS WHO SHOULD DO THIS ARE CARS WHICH ARE ONLY USED AT THE DRAG STRIP AND GO STRAIGHT.
My car is used at the drag strip from time to time. Notice my post above which stated.....

Interesting!?!?
I'm not going knock anyone for doing it. But my Vic is a Daily Driver. I put way too many miles on the Car to go without Power Steering, Perhaps When I get my Toy Car, I'll Rock it.
Also I think it greatly depends on where you live and what you do. No power steering living in Downtown Baltimore or (Insert Your City Here) ?? Not going happen, but if your daily drive contains just a few lights and turns, then more power to you.
BTW some one take pics and write up a good DIY, don't be lazy.

It is really easy to remove the belt. There are 2 12mm bolts that need to be loosened. One on the engine side, and one on the belt side. Then loosen the wingnut tensioning screw and remove the belt.
Some people will remove the pump completely, loop the fluid lines on the rack, and put the high pressure line to a resorvoir which acts as a breather. Apparently this reduces some of the steering effort required.
