ecu...professional help please

ok, please only reply if you actually know something about this...

my plan is i want to get a new ecu for my car....i've been told that it might be possible to put a k20a type-s or type-r ecu into my car and buy a connector harness and repin the wires....i know it's possible, but the person who suggested this to me has a b series with a d series ecu and only knows for certain that his setup works......but has anyone done it with a d17??

I've always thought the ecu controls specific engine functions. Like if you have an auto, the ecu will contain preset shift points and stuff like that. If this is related to your vtec controler not working right, I guess you could swap one from an older 01 d series from a junkyard or something. I don't think an ecu for a different engine will work as well as the one made for the engine.

atl01 will become famous soon enough
Im sure it will work if you pulled the pins and changed the to the right one, but thre are sevral functions that the K-series motors have that the D-series dont have. You also run into the problem with the imbolizer which has to be reflashed by honda, which might be a problem.

This will not work. The K series and D series engines are completely different... the ECU from the K series will be sending and receiving information which is different then the D series engine. This will fvck up everything!
The compression is different, the Air/Fuel mixture is different, the stroke is different, let's not forget "i"-vtec!

I don't understand why you would want to put a K series ecu into your car? If you want to adjust fuel/air curves, and vtec... go buy a VAFC II or an AEM EMS.

^ actually, you can supposidly stop the i-vtec function and just run normal vtec with the right reprogramming supposidly....secondly, people locally here are running b series engines with d-series ecu just because of their wide availability....

and i already have v-afc2

its possible.. got a guy out here who did a k20 swap and didnt have the k20 ecu so was using the d17 ecu for a few months before switching over... as my wiring tech guy would say... "u can mix and match anything u want... all it takes is some time and effort to get it done right"

yea, it's been confirmed u can run a k20a ecu in a d17...same computer (obd2) just have to repin..as for the ivtec problems etc...the only way to get around this is you MUST get hondata k-pro...then u can eliminate i-vtec and just run normal vtec...damn, now i just need to find a type-s/r ecu

Best of luck with that. I wouldn't even bother with it, wether it works or not.
