It's supposed to be one piece. Oh and just so you know, K&N makes terrible filters that don't work well anyway. Go get a napa gold paper filter if you like your engine.
Some folks on this web site have had problems with their K&N filters. My racing experience says otherwise, as does just about every one else I race with (half dozen folks with 9-11 second muscle cars). They filter the air on all my vehicles including two drag cars and I've never had problems with ring or cylinder wear.

My car felt better when I went back to using a paper filter. Also sounded better as well. But it's your car and your choice. The increased flow rate of the K&N is almost insignificant compared to the extra dirt you're gonna let in.

damn, you got lucky, sell that bish and make some extra $$. im with gearbox though, if the gains were signifigant, id be all for a k&n filter and use one myself.. but since the gains are minimal.. its not worth the decreased filtering ability
When paper filters are new, they flow as well as the K&N. However, they plug up pretty quickly and flow decreases. The K&N may not filter quite as well as paper, but it's damn close and filters just as well for a lot longer than paper. This ain't coming out of my a$$, it's based on studies done by others. Vizzard has a pretty good comparison in his second "how to make power" book. There are other comparisons out there as well.
I'd never trust my butt dyno to tell me a product works better or worse, you gotta dyno or 1/4.

I've been driving for the past week with this filter now. I have noticed my high end response is a lot better than before but low end is still crappy.
At least it did something though =)

isnt the oil u put on the K&N give it the same filter as paper??.. IMO... but if u have a CAI or SRI then u have no choice but to get a K&N filter or something like that.. unless they make paper filters for them?? or do they?? so what would be the best for this situation....right now i have 2 filters.. one K&N and one High Flow Screen Filter which i put on when down at the 1/4mile
