EX -> DX header?

Well, after searching for a few hours and not really finding anything I was wondering if someone would be able to help me out with this. I want to get new headers for my 2001 dx but then I would have to get rid of the cat and wouldnt be able to pass emissions anymore. That is a problem.

My question is, would it be possible to get headers for a 2001 EX with an EX cat and catback exhaust for an EX to fit onto my 01 DX? If it is possible than that would be great.

Or if anyone knows of an aftermarket headr than has a cat on it like the dx does, please let me know.

Thanks

it's entirely possible for you to convert your exhaust system to tat of an EX. For a dx/lx, thats where a good amount of power to be had.

You'll need an EX header, cat, exhaust, sway bar and bushings.

I all ready have the Thermal R&D full catback for the DX, its three pieces , I think its the same one that the ex uses except the ex doesnt need the last piece, correct me if I am wrong, so all i need then is an ex header and an ex cat. Would that work?

i'm not sure. If you buy everything and it still doesn't fit, just goto a muffler shop and have them weld in an extension pipe.

You'll also need an EX sway bar and bushings i believe.

Ok, i found that the dx sway bar (front) would get in the way of the EX header, so I know what that is for now, but what would the bushing be for, is that needed for the sway bar as well?

So If everything fits right, then what I would need to complete this is an EX header (aftermarket) and EX highflowcat (aftermarket) and an EX front sway bar (oem or aftermarket). Is that all, and has anybody done this so I can be sure it will all work.

Thanks

One quick question for all you, is this legal? It dont see why it would be because even though I would be taking out the cat, i would be putting another one in, also is a high-flow cat illegal or should i just get an oem EX cat.

HoldDaMayo: I havent done it yet, I just started to think about doing it today, so i need to find the right parts and see if my buddy can install them for me. I will let you know how it goes once i get it done

So if i understand correctly... with a completely stock DX/LX Civic... I would need:

OEM Front Sway Bar
EX Header
EX high flow cat
Custom or EX catback exhaust system

THanks

HoldDaMayo:Yeah....that's what i was told and under the assumption that that's all we would need...the worst part will be to buy the catback...that will be the expensive part if you go oem for the rest...

Guess I got lucky when I bought my catback exhaust, Its the Thermal R&D and it has three pieces, exhaust - mid section - and another pipe, I believe that the last pipe is were the ex cat goes so my exhaust should fit perfectly. I hope!!!

OEM ex front sway bar. dont get that mixed up. make sure it has a bend for the cat convertor.. cuz the EX cat convertor gets in the way.

and yes ur thermal should fit the EX.. the last pipping isn't needed.

it'll be illegal even if u have the EX stock cat.. cuz u're not suppose to remove the stock cat convertor or relocate it unless its damaged.. and even when its damaged u can't relocate it.. u'll have to replace it with an OE one.

in either case its not terribly difficult to swap them all out.. cuz this is all a completely bolt-on.. just takes more time.

honestly though from ur initial problem of worrying about passing emission.. u might not be able to pass the visual inspection of the emission testing.. if they know that the DX/LX shouldn't have the cat like that.. or if you installed an aftermarket EX header that isn't smog legal (only one is DC Sports).. and even though the Random Technology EX high flow cat can pass emission, its not legal in terms of CARB.

the best and cheapest way is probably a kamikaze/obx header for DX/LX.. which replaces the stock cat..

sure u wont pass emission.. but its a bolt on and u can just swap it in and out.. this way, u dont have to fiddle with paying more for an EX header, cat, and sway bar.

the OBX one is about 135 + shipping while the kamikaze one is a bit more.

there's a guy selling it in for sale for 100 + shipping. u should look into that.

the inspections at smog check stations are VERY weak... they hardly check anything... I'm more concerned with passing emissions then looking like a stock DX/LX... Just think about how difficult it would be to know the location of every stock cat for every vehicle out there... impossible... I would be concerned with a CARB legal header though... that is an easy visual...

I'm planning to go through with this next month when i have the cash... I will update... I'm going with the DC header, Random Cat, Magnaflow exhaust, and Suspension Techniques front sway bar...

EDIT: engine wise, car is completely stock except for an AEM V2 intake
