Oem airfilter housing crap!
Ok so here's the deal, Yesterday i was going to take off my air filter housing cover which i personally have never done before on this car. So i take a philips screw driver at first and I can't seem to budge it without possible stipping it. So then i proceed to to use my 8mm socket with ratchet on it. This is where the problem is. I start to turn to lossen the bolt(and yes i had the ratchet on off, im not the dumb) and then all of a sudden I hear a friggin crack.
So i look down at the housing and i see a white crack in the black plastic where it has cracked. Now the all the bolt does is turn around without lossening. So i then try on the bolt next to it to see if it was just that one and the same thing happens. WTF Mate! what do i do now? how do i get the bolt out? and should i buy a new housing once i get it off?
omg, that's so ghey..
i got the same experience when I wanna unscrew those screws on the air filter housing..
however, i DID strip out two screws......but seems like your case is even worst..
how is it possible for you to crack the housing when ur UN-screwing? OMG.
well2...seems like u gotta you a plies to take it out....maybe also getting a new air filter box?
MAKE SURE you spray your new screws with WD-40 (did i say the correct brand? hm..)
MAKE sure too that you spray the new air filter box's screw hole with WD-40...

First thing, because its worth a try, take it to the dealer and raise hell. See if they can get any of the remaining ones undone. Sounds like someone at the factory had a bad day and thought it would be funny to overtorque the screws.
If you gotta buy a new one, you probably won't be happy, they're like $100. So consider some sort of aftermarket intake.
If you somehow end up getting the stock box fixed or whatever use antisieze or graphite lube, not WD40. Antisieze will insure you can get the bolts out, and WD 40 doesn't always agree with plastic.

Yeah I get it, but the airbox is plastic. Even if there's a metal sleeve in there (which I'm not sure if there is), theres still plastic all around it, I don't know if I'd want to get WD40 anywhere near it unless I was sure it wouldn't eat it.
Antisieze is a product (its molybendium lube), graphite lube is what it sounds like, graphite powder in a grease. Just waltz into a hardware store and buy whatever brand is on the shelf.

that's a nice info...thanx...i think im getting one tube...
i wanna grease every screws that i happen to open while doin DIY....
hm, i think WD-40's ok with plastic....hm, lemme read the instruction on the can again later...
i didn't exactly spray on the hole though..
i only sprayed on the screws......i think it's better than nothin...
anyway, do you guys realize that there's a bit difference in the size of the screws for the airbox between the 2002 Civic and the newer civic?
IMO, there might be a flaw in the old screw design....IMO, the new screws (you can get it on the dealer) head seems to be stronger than the old one....AND, the head also seems to be smaller in size...(I compared it)
SO, you might want to get the new screws and install it on your new airbox...
DONT forget to use the antiseize lube too!!
hope this helps.

DAmn that sucks, I also noticed that the screws strip easily. I used a screwdriver originally, but it stripped like a bi tc h . But the ratchet worked alright, but it looks like that part is stripping as well.
