YES There is a RECALL!
YES There is a RECALL!
For all those who for whatever reason did not believe me. I went to the DMV site and found this. To go to the site you have to click on this link, then on the left yellow column click on recall, then the first blue link in the center that says Recall searches by, make, model, year then you can select all the info for your car and it will bring up the listing below. Unfortunately you cannot hotlink the actual page.
Here is the abstract:
Make: HONDA Model: CIVIC Year : 2002
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 04V086000 Recall Date: FEB 24, 2004
Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING : HEADLIGHTS
Potential Number Of Units Affected: 440000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LOW-BEAM TERMINAL ON THE HEAD LIGHT WIRE HARNESS CAN OVERHEAT AND COULD CAUSE THE LOW BEAMS TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING.
Consequence:
AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF LOW BEAMS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND COUPLER FOR SIGNS OF HEAT DAMAGE. IF HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SWITCH AND COUPLER. IF NO HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND ONE MATING PIN IN THE COUPLER. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATIONS AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

isnt honda supposed to mail you something when there is a recall? when there was arecall for the fuel pump (i think thats what it was) on my mom's 02 altima, nissan sent her a letter notifying her to come in t get it fixed. i never got anything from honda about my 02 civic??
7gencivicboi if your vin is in with the batch of 2002 civics that need to be recalled they will do the update no matter what. The part that is effected is the combination switch and 16p wire.
You will get a letter if your one of the 440k involved. I am not sure about other models, i.e. 01, 03 civics.
If you have projectors my recommendation would be to change back to stock headlamps as I did this morning, it will make less of an argument at the dealer.

what about if you have the zenon headlight bulbs? Do you think that will cause a argument at the dealer about the bulbs having a higher watage? Oh, I have a 01 civic, any idea if that year was affected.
This post is really not that old since the first one I made about maybe two weeks ago where alls it did was get knicked down as being untrue and false, etc.
The point was to show that it is true. to answer all of your questions.
I am not sure if it is for 2001 civics but go to the links and you can find out.
I dont think a higher wattage bulb will matter, I have silverstars in my stock lamps now.
My headlights are cleared out as well, and you can always tell the dealer if they give you ****, that they are supposed to be fixing the harness itself, not the headlight, so really it shouldnt matter.

I got my paper in the mail. Its getting done friday. It affected the 01-02 civics. It has nothing to do with the bulbs or headlights. Its the wiring harness that has the problem. If you dont get a paper, than your car is not affected in the recall.
