Talking AWD '01 civic

i have a few things to mention before i even go into what it is that i want to do. first: i know htat this project is very labor intensive, expensive and all in all just a pain in the @$$ to do but the benifits, by a long shot, out weight the cons so here goes nothing. i want to turn my 2wd civic into an AWD monster. i lknow that this can be done i think but the main part of my question is this: if i can do this what parts would i need from my donor crv (besides the obvoius) and what is the price range that i am looking at. my next question is that what are some of the little things that i might overlook while doing this and what are the electrical and differential problems that i might have with this project. and third of all: is there anything else that i cant think of that maybe you can to help me with this because i know that this project is very doable but i just need a little help so anything that y'all can think of that would be even the slightest bit of help would be greatly appreciated thanx

the major problem will be the floor pan to fit in the drive axel and the trunk pan to fit in the diff. .. new rear susp from the crv and in the front also.. is the crv strut front? it not it might be even harder... cost.. crv parts 4-5k for engine, susp. and drive train, new floor and trunk pan 2-3k most likely, labor to intall and work out misc problems 2-3k plus

the F/R weight ratio is around 70/30, if not worse. you would be lucky to get about 20% or so of the power tot he rear wheels.

I tried to get the stuff together and brought this up before. Problem is, I want big power to actually take advantage of the setup. The RWD axels from honda simply don't hold enough power without breaking. If you had custom made axels then you could do it, but that didn't leave me with enough cash for my turbo.

They have awd 7thgens in Japan. Hydraulic operated though. Look into that.

Its actually 61/39 and it'll move towards 50/50 if you plop a drive shaft, and a rear diff, drive axles and stuff back there.

get some1 to buy you a civic ferio mechanics book (those thick *** books) and find the parts you need, and order them from hondawerx. Greg said he could get the parts, but just needed to know exactly WHICH parts. Hongkong has the ferio also, dunno if its the 4wd one though

if that is for our car, that is a WAY different suspension/chassis, which makes me think that is an older ferio.

That's be an awesome project, like the one in my sig. The VTM-4 system from the MDX would be even better.

since the current ferio comes in awd. im sure you could import a service manual or something to see the details of the car and the parts you need. from thep pics, theres no flat rear floor for the awd.

it would an awesome project, but you would want more power to be able to power the rear wheels as well, so I would save up for a turbo or k20 swap, then save up again for the awd conversion.

Not to be a ****, but...
if you need to ask what parts you need, your not going to be able to do this. This is something that if you know everything there is to know about cars, you still learn as you go.

It's still the same D17, but it's also a four door, and really weak... The systems is only for driveability, the hydralic system they use will NEVER hold up to any FI civic.

same d17 like madwheel said, but they also have it in a non-vtec 1.5L version. guessing d15?

i really do appreciate every one's input on this project o' mine. and in reply to the_duke: i know and fully accept the idea that i do not know everything there is to know about cars. but thats the point; i want to keep learning about them until the day i can no longer pick up a tool to work on them; because if you know everything from the start, then it is pointless to continue because you already know everything! but anyways i also realize that this is not going to be a cheap and easy project to do, but in my eyes it is well worth any amount money, time and any other cost that come along with it. so thanx again and if y'all find out any more info, let me know!
