hi, i think my engine might be running rich, what is the best way to check if it is?

well i know of gauges you can buy...like a hand held gauge..

but i would much rather spend the money to get a 2 1/16 gauge and put it in the car

I say take it to an automotive shop, im sure one of them will have one of those hand held gauges

pull the spark plugs. if they are black, its rich. it should be a light brown/tan color on the electrode. if its white, its lean, and if its speckled, it has been detonating. there are far more complicated ways to read spark plugs but this is a general idea.

Most shops have those "tail pipe sniffers" for A/F ratios. Check around. I'd check the plugs as ^^^ said first.

I know mine is running rich stock. My gas mileage is terrible and plugs were black at 18K miles. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
