Magnaflow......POS

To the owners with a Magnaflow catback, do you guys have any problems with tiny leaks and annoying vibrations/rattling? I installed the system about three weeks ago and it was rattling against the heat sheild and there was a tiny leak at one of the joints. The rattling was from a clamp positioned wrong. But I spent half the night under my car in the cold screwing with this damn exhaust. It still has a very small leak but not it has a buzzing vibration noise. I was about ready to call Magnaflow a tell them how much it sucks. The exhaust itself it great, but the design sucks. What are some solutions to these problems??? I already decided I am welding the joints, but other than than..........solutions???? Thanks.

Sounds like error in installation not in design. If there is a lose joint just get some exhaust wrap or a tape clamp to seal it. I have had a mag for almost 3 years now and Ive scrapped it and its been through salt and freezing cold and it's still as good as the day I got it. Eh, maybe you just got a system not up to Specs.

Yea, at first the rattling was from a clamp positioned. I knew that, I was trying to keep the bolts from pointing downward. But clearance isn't an issue with clamps now. It is still puzzling me.......??

They make tape clamps that work really well. They look like steel belts that youd use on pants. Is that vibration noise from the resonator? It maybe the fiberglass packing settling in, if thats what ur talking about.

Remove all the clamps, get it welded and it will solve the problems. I had some rattles after having it for 2 yrs, got it welded and they are all gone. I was charged $45 to weld it all up at a local shop

Yeah, it is a great exhaust for the price, but I would get a Greddy or DC Sports one before I would get a Magnaflow. I also heard that the Tanabe was a good one.

I had the rattling problem when i left my resonator on for a few months. I then took it off and the rattling stopped.

Hey thanks for all the advice. Once it warms up I am just going to weld the joints. Your help is appreciated.

Get rid of it, it is designed poorly, the bends arn't where they are supose to be, they made the hump over the rear axel too high and it is just bull **** that you have to buy a product that isn't made right, i mean you put it on, but it hangs so low that you have to pay more money to get it welded. And please DON'T take off the resonator, that **** buzzes like a son of a bitch. I just took mine off kept the muffler and cut the pipe and just made my own axle back.

Bottom line - there is a reason why it is so cheap. sell that **** or give it back and get a real catback, or better off just get a custom one done , you could even keep the magnaflow muffler and resonator and make your own catback.

The only plus the Magnaflow gets is that it sounds good, maybe even a lil too quiet.

Anyway i just had to vent i just don't want anyone else making the same mistake i did

"POS" is a little harsh. It does sound great but I'm getting rid of mine because it hangs to low for me now that I got the Hayames.

So if anyone wants a used Magnaflow real cheap let me know!

Isnt there a way to pull it closer to the under carriage? Can you switch the rubber hangers or something?

no rattles or problems here. I got the pipes welded and i got the lower hangers off the rear bumper and no problems at all. its just the way u installed it, u got it put on wrong or u messed it up. get it done right. dont say its crappy cuz its pretty good. maybe u did it urself. not a professional. just my opinion. had it for over a year and through two winters and not one problem.

Everyone is a critic when it comes to bashing people about installs. True, I have to get under there and re-align the joints. There is really only one way to put it on. But there are some design flaws in the system itself. I guess POS ia little harsh. I retract that statement. The u-bolt clamps should be done away with and flanges be used for a better seal. The hangers may need to be tweaked for clearance issues also. I will go along with what "briggzy" stated. But I'll be completely honest, I love the exhaust. I drove around today with my window down because it has nice low tone.
