2004 Foglight Install
2004 Foglight Install
As much as I love our 04 EX, we have other ideas of what constitutes a car that we'd like to invest a large amount of money into modding...that being said, I'd like to have the OEM foglights installed in time for my fiance's birthday.
Having seen the installation instructions on H and A's site, there is NO WAY I am going to attempt the job myself...has anyone had the OEM foglights installed already? At a dealership or specialty shop? How much did it run ya?
Thanks!

The hourly labor at a dealership is very high. You may be better off buying the fogs there and taking them to a stereo shop for installation. The best thing to do is get a quote from the dealer and a local shop that you trust.
Well that's the problem...I am not really familiar with ANY audio shops despite my infatuation with high end car audio. Matt (my fiance) does all of the install work so we have never had the need. If going to the rip off dealership means paying more, but KNOWING that they will probably not cut corners (at least more than an average shop, hehe) then it may be worth the extra cash. Also, with quality issues it is always easier to complain to a franchise like a dealer than an independent shop.
Thanks for the tip though, I will definetely keep it in mind if the dealer really is crazy expensive.
I am guessing around $250.

My dealer wanted 250 for my foglight install. I went to the shop where they put in my remote start in my old car. The specialize in just mobile electronics. I paid 70 bucks, and no problems.
So you just bought the kit and took them the instructions? Does it come with all harnesses and the switch? Where does the switch go on the interior? I guess I am a little worried that the audio shop will be a little sloppy with the button install and scratch up our new interior...I know, I'm paranoid

Just to let you know, the fog lights only work when the headlights are on, they will not work with just the parking lights or by them selves.
I thought I'd let you know this because a friend of mine found out the hard way.
I like your thinking as far as spending the extra money to get the job done right, I have no problem spending the extra cash for a job done correctly and clean.

Really???
That is unfortunate, I hoped they could be switched on without the headlights...oh well. Thanks very much for the heads up!
I'm going to call around to the local dealerships and get a final price now. I decided to pay the extra exhorbitant fee just because I know that if they are careless or sloppy I can take up my greviances with them more easily than an independent mod shop.
Plus, if I go with a small shop, and something happens, I'll NEVER hear the end of it

i installed aftermarket driving lights using the install directions from HandA and an OEM switch...worked great and you cant even tell that they werent installed by Honda
i hard wired them so i can use them without the headlights/parking lights being on

That may be possible with the 01-03s, but the foglight holes on the 04s are very specific as to fitment, so aftermarket lights that appear OEM are impossible.
I called the dealer that we purchased the car from, and it is going to be $187. Not bad, I hope the lights get here soon!

Yes. Another dealer quoted me $250. With labor rates in this area at $75/hour, that's about what I expected.
TERRIBLE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently the foglights are on backorder for 1.5 months!!!
This was confirmed by both H and A and Ray Laks Honda in NY state. Damn it all...

damn. the 04s are better looking foggies though. yup. definitely sexier.
thats too bad on it though.
me, I'll go to the local forums of ur specific region, and ask for someone to help install. usually there will be a person of some profession with some experience that can do the job for you for cheaper price, AND guaranteed or stand behind their install. *shrug* (ie: in our southern california forum, we have a honda tech that does install for us and charges cheap etc.)
or use the time and find cheaper labor. I wouldn't pay more than $100, this isn't an 3 hour work or anything. 2 hour max. 30 min. to 1 hour if they're experienced enough.

I'm sure it is a ripoff, but I am not experienced with imports, or extremely tiny engine bays. I have NEVER worked on a car that you have to take off the bumper cover to swap headlights
Any work I have done was on V8 domestics with mucho elbow room under the hood...so really, I don't care about paying the high price just to not have to deal with it

Fog light idea has been cancelled, and I am buying him the aero kit instead
I am waiting to get some availability responses on the kit in Magnesium, and my future parents in law, his brother and I are splitting the cost. Should be a very Happy Birthday!
