How To Improve Acceleration?
How To Improve Acceleration?
I am going to buy a 2004 Civic EX Coupe (automatic) soon and want to have to dealer's mechanic do something to improve the acceleration as much as possible. I want it done by the dealer so the car is still under warranty and passes California emission laws, so aftermarket stuff is out for now.
What can improve acceleration the most though? I see lots of talk about cold air intake, short ram, and turbochargers (?), but I don't know if I need any of this or something completely different instead?

go to sema.org and it will tell you that most after market parts will and can not void your warranty, but the dealer wont and probaly cant do anything for you so do it yourself, depends on what state you are in, but if you want faster acceleration go with turbo, otherwise all you can do is boltons

yeah, man definitly try not to get a automatic, at least stick to the manual if you want any hopes of better acceleration. if you want better throttle responce get pullies, definitly will help in that, i think rh racing is getting alot done with pullies, AEM and unorthodox make great pullies also.

yah dont get an auto that would be gay. and secondly if it's not honda oem its aftermarket. but if you do insist on an auto, fuel press regulater, intake, header, exhaust, vtec controller "apexi vafc II" cam regrind or wait for skunk2, unorthadox pully set. that should get u'r auto down to a 16.5 quarter mile!!!
not entirely true, it depends on how fast? i want my car to be fast but my def of fast is 14.5 quarter mile. so yah if your lookn for r34 fast or ferrari enzo fast your lookn at the wrong car, but if you wanna a nice reliable car that can beat a svt fosucks, or tiburon, you can do it for maybe 5 big bills. get a stick rebuild yor bottom end, redo your valve train, do what i said earlier, get a sf turbo kit bump it to 8psi in your built engine and enjoy the fruits of a nice reliable quicker than most car!!!
ps if you get an auto all of what i said will get you a 16.2 quartermile!!!, versus the 14 in a stick.

one quick and cheep way to get a little bit of accleration boost....."Short" tires. and I dont mean low profile tires on a 17. I mean smaller then stock diamiter tires. EXample: For racing (I autocross) I run a 205/50-15, this is about 6% smaller then stock. This does a couple of things, 1. less torque lossed by turning a smaller wheel, 2. effectivly changes the Final drives Gear ratio for better acceleration.
the down sides of this are.... you speedomiter will be off by about 6% too fast (if the speedo says your going 100, you actually are going 94) Increaced milage(the wheels will be rotating quicker).
other then that, its a cheep way to better acceleration. and if you get the right tires your handling will improve too.

the tranny runs off a seperate computer????? to my knowledge i only have ONE ECU.
ne ways, it all depends on how much u want to spend in order to go fast. u can buy a new SRT and be pretty fast and buy the mopar stage one kit, and it gives u like 10-20+ whp, i dont remeber exactly its in the new SCC, and it wasnt ridiculously priced, now if u want to spend 3k on a old civc and spend another 15-20k on that then ull blow the hell out of a SRT, its all relative to ur intended goal and how much u want to spend on what

Homer simpson once put "speed holes" in ned's car....i believe. and that should take off some weight and make you more aero-dynamic.
I will install the "speed holes" for you, and not charge u a thing!
