Hi there,
Is it normal for the Air Con to cut in and out several times a minute when driving in very hot weather,and also is it normal to hear the clicking sound as it does this??
I have a 2003 Honda Civic Hatch VTech 1.7Litre and wondering about this .
As i ahve never heard this noise before with other cars i have owned it is rather annoying,can anything be done or is this the norm???

Completely normal.

What you're hearing is the AC compressor tuning on. If you have your lights on, you might notice they dim a little for a second too.

As long as your air is cold, theres no problem, the noise the A/C compressor makes is the clutch "cycling". This is normal, it prevents the evaporator from freezing up.

If its clicking on and off really fast, like 20 to 30 times a minute, then you are probabaly low on refrigerant, which means you have a slow leak somewhere.

Thank you to all who answered my question on the Air Con matter,it is good to know that the car is running normally as this is a new one Whew!! Thought i had a problem so soon.

Well i got the Air Con sorted out at last,took it to a Honda Dealer and they checked in out,after which i was told that the Air Con had been overfilled with Gas,apparently they drained some Gas and then took it for a test drive and Whamo!! all fixed.
I now have no more noise and the Air Con is working as it should,really cool too.
Thanks for all the posts on this anyway,so if anyone ever experiences this check the Gas !!!
