!!!!header question!!!!
ok... well i have a friend here where i live that specializes in custom exhaust work.... and loves turbo's... well anywayz... i'm getting a custom downpipe w/no cat made to connect up to my greddy EVO... well i have a DC sports Shorty header.... he said he can order the bends to make it fit up to the shorty header.... but how much difference will it make for my just to buy the runner part of the HP Race header... meaning i don't need the downpipe from the HP race header... just the runners... any exhaust guys know if it's gonna make a difference which one i use??? thanks

yes... i mean the top portion... thanks for asking... now everybody will understand my question better i guess... i was using the technical term earlier... but yes... the top portions... which would suffice better?
I have a Kamikaze (black hi temp coating) header for sale ... just by looking at it, it looks better because the tubes are shorter (they connect to the wider collector quicker)
but that's imo ...
pics are in my ride ... $175 shipped, $155 picked up ... haha you're probably better off with the HP header for my price

I thought that if you bought just the top portion of the header ( shorty header ) that it wouldnt give you any extra HP, dont you have to buy the hole header that connects to the cat to get some power?

nope the top portion does gives a nice little power gain because the stock header is so restrictive and so is the dc sports shorty crap, just do a search the kamikaze and hp racing are good.

Unless you have used the dc sports header with the dc sports exhaust, dont comment on the header. The header is a fine piece of equitment. My car pulls extremely well with a air filer, dc header, and dc tcs. All people like to do is put down dc sports. Why? They are just as good as greddy, tanabe, or hp.

sure it flows more, but velocity is affected too.
header design takes a lot into consideration.. the lengths and bends of the primaries... the point where it merges and the diameter of the collectors... if a manufacture knows the engine enough, they can tune a header to increase hp/torque where they want in the powerband and shift the powerband accordingly too...
the fact that our stock header is designed this way.. there doesn't leave much room for aftermarket development (not that it'll do that much anyway even if there's room)
I prefer DC's cuz they dont overkill on the diameter of the tubbing, I had a similiar header to the HP/generic short one.. and personally it ate up the high end torque good... its evident cuz top speed decreased dramatically... I have a DC replica and it doesn't do that...
perhaps if your engine warrants the extra flow.. anyway, like I said, more to header than big tubbing.
at this point, I dont think you'll see much difference by switching the header.. just keep what u have now and have ur friend do what you want. as for it putting down good gains? i'm not sure.
everyone says the stock cat is restrictive, I use to think so too.. but even if it is, swapping to a straight pipe or highflow cat and the likes, you still wont get that much more power outta it.. bolt-ons only do so much.

hey i noticed a very nice gain all through the powerband when i added my downpipe/high flow cat, must be because i already had cold air intake and, header, and catback exhaust so it made all of them work together nicely

no no... we did a search on this a while ago... and some guy measured his stock downpiping size... it wasn't barely even 2 inches... so downpipe does have room to be bettered...
