Removing trunk lid

i want to remove the trunk lid in the safest way possible...
so i can sound deaden the WHOLE thing a little easier
also, once i get it off, what would the best thing to place it on be...a blanket? i def dont want to damage the paint

^^^ i agree with what they said, a big soft blanket is a must and have someone help, because when i tried to do it myself i had hell i ended up scratchin the inside some but i figured who the hell is gonna see it.

What about the cables for the truck release? is there an easy way to detach them?

The cables are all pretty self explanitory. For the lock/latch that is in the middle of the trunk...you will have to take off the little cover peice held together by two little phillip screws.
