typeS ecu in 01 civic
If I put a type S ecu in my car, what would be my pro's and con'd?
pro's and cons of my guess....
pro's
1. the redline will go down to 8.2
2. acceleration would be a little faster considering the gear ratios is set to a 6 speed.
3. vtec will jump harder.
con's
1. vtec will kick in later
2. i don't have 6 gears.
another more expensive ecu upgrade??? probably huh???

sounds like an ID10t problem.
You will have to get keys mapped as well since immobilizer will no longer work.
Your better of getting a JET CHIP upgrade for $229.00
Type S will not work for our civics

gear ratios are inside your transmission, not the ecu, you will still shift, and have the same gear ratios as before
they use a different vtec system, so most likely, you will lose your vtec and the check engine light will come on
more cons:
the ecm would most likely be completely confused and throw all different kind of settings for a/f
wiring will most likely not fit
the car will crank, but won't start
and like everyone else said, the ecm will most likely not fit anyway

Why the hell does everyone want a higher redline? A D17 can't handle a higher redline unless you do some work to it. All these people are like "boohoo, I want to remove my rev limiter." Wtf would you do that? So you can throw a rod? Yay! One less stupid Civic owner on the road.

im not taking this guys side.. but this has been done before using GSR ecus on SOHC ... you need to chip it, but it CAN work, just like SOHC can be chipped rto run DOHC.. i dont see it being worth money, ut it IS possible... look for anohert SOHC to use.. thats a better option.. and yes, wityching ecus in some cars is like FREE horsepower, some think better than others... doesnt sound like it would work, but a 750i ecu in my friends 327i bmw made like 28whp.. well, one of the 7501 ecus, that car has two, one for each bank of 6 cyl.. but you get the idea.. and yeah, that a 98 ecu on a 86bmw.... his car runs mid to low 14s with no bolts ons... its crazy... i head on e block, etc etc... nothing crazy done YET.,. turbo in SPRRING.. hehehe.. looking for 12s in a 4 door 86 bmw... HELL YEAH!

Bottom line is..... why??? engine can't handle it without internal mods (i'm talking bout higher redline).... and it does u no good to chip your car or get a custom chipped ECU when u don't have much done in the first place.... and just before u say you do.....
NO NO NO..... I/h/E does not count as a lot done to your car...
End of discussion....

It would be great to have a higher redline, but you need to do some work first. The bottom end will hold fine with a high redline, its the top end that needs the work. With a P&P hrad, upgraded valve train, and a regrinded cam you should be able to run a redline of 8,000 maybe even 8,500. Hondata should be able to do a custom ECU reflash. Do some research. Check out Dh-racing.com and Hondata.com
It wont work...and i'll list a few reasons why:
The immobilizer wont let it turn over
The clips that go into the RSX ECU dont line up
Nothing would work properly even if you did get past the immobilizer cause the ECU wasnt built for the D17 power house (HA!...power house...D17)
you want me to keep going...?
You want an RSX ECU...get the motor with it, then we can talk about this.
