Rep Power: 0 What is REAL carbon fiber?
I searched the site and the internet, but found little answers. I just want to know what is carbon fiber exactly? what does it look like? I have seen many, many pictures of CF hoods and parts, but arn't those just a sticker layover? I am confused.

Rep Power: 0 if you want real good carbon fiber then I suggest Fiber Images because they have the strongest carbon fiber......I saw them at hot import days and they were running over the hood and nothing happened and then they started to bend it in half and it didn't break until the sides were almost touching. Now that is strong carbon fiber......I have one and all my friends have one. I can sit on my hood and don't have to worry about denting it and I wiegh about 190pounds. About the carbon fiber I don't know

Rep Power: 0 Carbon fiber is a thread, (not sure exactly what it's made of, it' not pure carbon.. cause that woulnd't work) then that is woven into a cloth, which is then soaked in a resin that hardens. So, it's actually 2 parts. Now, Real carbon fiber is something that has to be made very carefully or it won't have the strength it's supposed to have. I know a guy with his own machine shop that can make carbon fiber parts, but they're a pain in the *** cause you have to mill out a mold then polish it. Fiberglass is the same thing as carbon fiber, except that it has different fibers.

Rep Power: 290 Take a look at this site .
KaZeLL here owns or runs that site/company. He does custom CF applications...he may be able to tell you what it is.

Rep Power: 0 CF is a interlayering of Actual carbon fibers and fiberglass. They are coated with resin to give them that shine and protectant. CF is stronger than steel when used in some applications but is extremely brittle when pushed the wrong way.
I have been sailing for a few years now and we had a CF spinnaker pole (really long pole that holds a big sail up front) Well it weighs only 20lbs. compared the the aluminum one we had that weighed 75. ITs a great thing to have saves time and effort and weight on the boat and holds more stress. But if pushed the wrong way or if the wrong stress is exerted on it, it will shatter like a wine glass on a floor.

Rep Power: 335 with fiberglass and carbon fiber the more changes in shape, the stronger it is.
If you had a flat peice of either and flexed it with pressure it snap in half
