Exhaust diameter vs Volume

I've had my A'pexi N1 exhaust (with 2.5" custom piping, no resonator) for almost two years now. It was pretty loud so I decided to get the silencer for it and have been using it for almost a year and a half. The silencer does a great job toning down the sound but it makes my exhaust sound ricey at times. I've gotten to the point where I'd like to make it more quiet so I've considered 3 options (ideally, I'd like to quit using the silencer too):

1) add a resonator
2) get 2.25" piping
3) add another cat (which I think is kinda weird, but one of my friends suggests that)

which of the three will decrease more volume?

1 will probably be the same as 3... but 3 will make your car's exhaust even cleaner ... but will decrease performance

2 will do almost nothing for sound volume ... but it will sound a little different, as well as change your powerband

Yeah... just slap a resonator in there and you should be fine.

I had the apexi n1 w/ 2.25" and it was WAY to loud for me...i put a rezi in and that toned it down to where it needed to be. there are different size resonators so tell your muffler guy how much quieter you want it...he'll hook you up.

Add a large resonator. It will quite right down.

aside from a muffler shop, where could I find a resonator? I'm curious as to how much they cost

You can get a "glasspack" at autozone..but that's not what your looking for...I went to Lou's Custom Exhaust in MA and had my 2.25" stainless cut and a resi welded in and he hooked me up with new hangers for the muffler for 60bux and it took about 20 minutes. Just hit up an exhaust shop and ask for a price...
good luck

I have an N1. Sounds is ok. Try the resonator at your local MIDAS. It helped me alot with no noticable power loss.

Resonator or you can try this

Arospeed - Exhaust Control Valve
(one hasn't been made for the 7thgen that I know of, but a shop could modify it to fit.)

Dynomax race bullets (I use them like resonators in place of cats on a psycho mustang). They are nice pieces, and can be found just about everywhere (got mine at summitracing.com)
