Rep Power: 302 Custom Final drive ratio
Can I have someone custom fabricate my final drive gear to a diferrent ratio (full replacement of final gear). I've been playing around with numbers. Instead of having a final drive ratio on my 5 speed EX of 4.411, I want to change it to 3.850 +/- .020. This will get me over 60 in second gear. And a top speed of over 160 (i'll never go that fast). Reason why I want to do this: I just bought the SF turbo kit with many upgrades. Looking to make serious power in the spring. These dumb gears kill me, having to change constantly, plus my cruising at 80mph has very high rpms. What kind of shop would custom make a final gear for me? How much do you think it will cost? Any more info needed please let me know, I'll check this post a lot. Thanks for any help guys.

Rep Power: 356 If you do that, your acceleration will drop. its true that you will have a higher top speed, but it will take longer to get there.
Any way, a good auto machine shop would probably be able to hook that up. Is there a race track near you? talk to some of the workers, and see if they know of a good shop.

Rep Power: 0 Just get a civic hx 5 speed transmission, 2nd gear tops out at 70@7k rpm, 5th tops out at 175
probably easier then tearing apart a transmission and having a new gear fabircated.
Here's a zip of a excell spreadsheet I made that has all the gearing info for the manual 01+ civics.

Rep Power: 302 yeah my 4th right now if i'm not mistaken takes me to about 110 on my ex so that's not the issue. i really do not like cruising at 80 close to 4000 rpms. the different final reatio would remedy that problem. the HX thing sounds like an awesome idea though, i'll have to look into it.

Rep Power: 0 The hx 5 speed tranny is the SAME as any other civic tranny in terms of engineering, it's just got different sized gears. So if the hx's tranny has problems all civics have problems...
As far as the HX CVT, I haven't heard of any issues, in fact that might be an interesting thing to try swapping in, though I don't know if it could handle the kinda power you're planning on putting out.

Rep Power: 302 yeah lol, it's not that i have a ton of cash, it's that i put ALL my money into my car. i've been selling home theater systems and tvs at best buy for the last 2 years and i still only have a 19" zenith in my bedroom lol. if that gives you an idea. I was also planning on pulling in an AWD tranny from the civic sedan in japan so maybe i should just wait to do that then worry about my gearing
