which brake pads to buy?
Hello,
So many pads around, which one is good and cost Ok?
And where?
I have Civic 99 LX and CRV 2000 LX.
So far I've found from http://catalog.speedycarparts.com/?year=1999&make=HO
Brake Pad Set Pro-ACT Ceramic
N1010-125200 - $46.98
and
Brake Pad Set Nissin Super
N1010-60722 - $46.63
or should I go with
Brake Pad Set Deluxe
N1010-10656 - $31.86 only?
that for Civic.
and for CRV:
Brake Pad Set Pro-ACT Ceramic
N1010-125336 - $54.77
and Brake Pad Set Nissin Super
N1010-84172 - $51.97
or
Brake Pad Set
N1010-45299 - $35.84
Thanks a lot

does set include front and rear pads?
or - do I need to buy two for front and two for rear wheels?
from Honda quote: front $55 and rear $62 for civic
and $55 + $64 for CRV
do I need change front and rear at the same time?
what is good practice?
tnx

No that is for either front or rear, and they can be two different types of pads. Do you want performance pads or just something that will stop you? If you want just basic pads then get nissin pads or honda pads, though they are more expensive. if you want performance pads then go with EBC green, AEM/Nissin, or Hawk.
Back when I got the car, I got the AEM (Nissin) pads, and to be honest they are barely anything more than the stock pads in the performance arena. But, they have lasted well thru several open tracking events and have not chewed up my rotors. Which is what I really wanted out of them.
If you want performance, go with EBC, Hawk, Cobalt Friction or something similar. But if you daily drive it most of the time, get the AEMs or just a set of Honda OEMs to replace when the originals are worn out.

thank you for the answer.
I don't need it for performance, just for commute driving in traffic with 10 ml/h speed
sorry, my question wasn't clear :-(
do I need to buy ONE set for front wheels (which cost around $50.)?
or TWO sets - one per each wheel?
how many pads set has? or that depend?
Kragen has a lot of Raybestos.
what do you think about Raybestos PGD273M
http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...pe=219&PTSet=A
does Honda OEM any better then Raybestos or Nissin to pay more?
tnx

DO NOT get EBC redstuff!!!! They are good on higher output engines that require more stopping like M3s, STIs, etc. They are not good on econoboxes.
raybestos are good everyday pads.

The Honda OEM pads and AEM (Nissin) pads are about the same price... I got my AEMs for $40 I think.
Hawks (depending on the model) will run you about the same as GreenStuff, around $50-60 for a set.
As far what you need, you need one set of pads, which is 4 pads, 2 for each wheel/rotor. When you buy them the set will be in one box.
If you daily drive the car, don't worry about getting fancy pads, just get something that fits your budget.

Yup, Redstuff is not good for street use because they need to warm up before they are effective.
if you were doing track days or a lot of down hill runs through the mountains then yes you could use them, but other wise they are not nessisary for street use (unless you have a Heavy car). Even for autocross they may not be the best pad, Because with autocross you may not beable to heat the pad quick enough for full break power, and if you only get 3 runs (SCCA Minimum) you have to make every run count. For the street you need something with good Cold stopping power like EBC greenstuff, becaus on the streeet, you may not be able to warm the pads before you need to make an emergency stop.......
