Is this normal with a 7th Gen Civic?

I apologise if this is a commonly asked question. Ive been looking around but couldnt find anything relating to this.

I have a Canadian 2002 SI-G coupe with a 5spd manual transmission. Its 2 months old with 4 thousand kilometers on it. So its had a good chance to work in. But right from the day I drove it off the lot brand new, the 1st to 2nd shift is rougher than all the others. You can feel the "Syncro" I guess not getting it 100% right. 2nd to 3rd and so on feels great. 3rd to 2nd feels fine too. But 1st to 2nd feels a bit "grindy". You can even hear it slightly when the car is quiet. Its not very harsh or anything but you need to shift very slowly to get a perfectly smooth transition between 1st and 2nd. Is this normal? Or is this something that should be serviced? I have never abused the car, so there is no reason for that syncro to be failing.

Also sometimes but not very often, when I go to shift to 2nd the gearshift leaps right out of 1st gear. Just pops right out as soon as I pull on it a little with the clutch down. Happens usualy atleast once per day. Perhapse there is something that I keep doing every now and then that causes this?

Thanks

I can't help you out with your first problem.

But here is a thread related to 2nd gear popping out: Click here

It was a common problem on the 2001 civics, not sure about the '02's. I've never really had a problem with it, and I have an '02.

I have an '01 and experience the same thing from time to time. It's a little weird, but I don't think it does it all the time. I dunno why. Make sure you're pushing in the clutch all the way. It should go away. If not then take it for service. I get it too, but it goes away..

if you can reproduce the problem any time you want then take it to the dealer and show them whats happening. Sounds like a bad syncro to me. Let them take care of it.

Hmmm. Yes, I probably will take it in right away then just to get it sorted out. Perhapse one of the Jockeys beat the crap out of it or something

But the car only had 20 kilos on it when I picked it up. Im pretty sure its just been moved around the lot. They usualy use a designated demo car for all their test drives.

Thanks for the advice so far. If anybody else has more info please keep it coming. But based on this so far Im going to go to the dealer tomorow after work and get their input.

im the second owner of my 01 and when i got it i was having the same problem. i ended up having to get the whole transmission replaced, so id recommend you get it looked at while you still have a warranty, it would have cost me over $700 otherwise. good luck
