Hey i just bought an AEM CAI for my 01 LX and i looked at the DYI and the tubes in the pic are different sizes than the ones i got, why? it appears as though its the same tube in whole but it was cut in a different place as the one in the pic to make the two tubes out of it, do you understand what im saying? please help me im confused

(i think, i could be wrong) the AEM CAI on the DIY is for EX and Lx have a differen't pipe size and desigh.

yes thats right i have an 02 lx and its one long pipe instead of 2 smaller ones. the diy for the most part is the same except for the screw and washer part by the battery.

diff. engine, diff. powercurve, diff. tub bend and length to reflect the diff. power points.

either AEM just did that for a kick of it, or they actually R&D each specific engine.

now, can u do me a favor and let me know if the 2nd tube, the much shorter one.. is bigger in diameter? the first one is 2.5 inch in diameter while the second one is 2.75, right?

just making sure I know the specs.

I have never seen an AEM CAI for the 7thgen as one piece. I have an LX and when I got my intake it was 2 pipes not one.

I just installed my AEM CAI and it had two pipes. The tip of your filter should be about even with the bottom of the radiator. Lay all your parts out like they would be if they were installed and see if you have any clamps that look left over.

I have one or two left over clamps but it had only 1 metal tube. my filter sits right under the battery near the transmission

ah u should have two tubes for the CAI. weird.

but there should be a 2nd shorter tube.

lol i thought so too. hmm. its not like a knockoff or anything unless they tried REALLY hard. AEM box, flyers, stickers, filter, carb stickers, manual. All AEM, not IEN or crap like that.

EDIT: Part numbers on page 1 of the installation instructions say

Part Numbers 21-500 & 21-502
2001 Honda Civic EX M/T
2001 Honda Civic DX/LX M/T

maybe instead of v1 i have v0.5 or something? got it on ebay new

sorry to tell you, but I think you got a knock-off
it looks EXACTLY like my pipe that I paid $100 Canadian for, but with an AEM sticker.
One way to tell is if it came with the "AEM" mounting bracket. Mine came with just a strip of aluminum that I used to mount the transmission cable.

they wouldn't go and knock off the carb E.O number too..

its probably just missing that 2nd shorter tube.

the generics are now even coming with the mounting bracket.. so there isn't much difference, but there is a tube size difference.

is the second shorter tube supposed to make the filter go down to the bottom of the radiator from where its at now? or is what you see supposed to be 2 tubes?

Yes, the second tube is supposed to take the filter down further toward the bottom of the radiator. I also noticed that your tube does not have the same sticker mine has. Mine's a large raised metal-faced sticker that has AEM in yellow letters - kind of a nice touch. AEM left some minor hardware out of my box, so maybe they forgot your lower tube. I'd call 'em and get it shipped in. I have an LX too, and you're going to enjoy the sound it makes.

aem uses 2 different stickers on their cai.. i think i know what ur talking about. as for the sound, i already do enjoy! ill give em a ring.. thanks mig

should have got the K&N FIPKII it outperforms aem
and givrs more torque. I can bark the tires in third gear at 63mph

they're all just a tubes after all. we all know hot air rises, and there's FIPK sittin thar at the very top of the engine bay suckin hot air, while our stylish CAI is down low, low enjoying the cool weather. hard to see how FIPK doing ***** but making noise. jk!

he will prolly try to say that the picture shows the 2nd pipe not there. but it also says its new and complete. for all i knew that was complete. I dont wanna have to send it back and get a refund and get another one. thats a pain in the

In addition, for all Lx models AEM only makes Short ram CAI (states Nopi). INJEN made CAI specifically for our cars. I have INJEN (polished) and I am very pleased with the gains and it's not short ram either!

lets clear this up... SHORT RAM INDUCTION- IS AN SRI .. meaning the air gets pulled from the engine bay....
COLD AIR INDUCTION is and CAI.. WHICH pulls from BELOW the engine... getting air from the road below...
Now since you state that NOPI says AEM only makes a SHORT RAM CAI .. can u please explain WHAT THE F U C K that IS ? cause Id really LIKE TO KNOW. it sound interesting.

the bill of materials for mine (21-500 i think) it says:

1 2-465 Inlet pipe 2.5"
1 2-466 Inlet Pipe 2.75"


whats with the 2 inlet pipes? it lists it for both EX and LX versions. oh and sorry for being a "dumbass" but i have to learn somehow. just because im learning about our cars or because i had a question doesnt make me a dumbass. i would have been a dumbass if a hadn't asked and tried to return it. again, chenz, sorry for asking a question.

THE SECOND PIPE IS THE EX ONE it changes SIZES ... bottem half pipe on EX IS BIGGER... this is why lx is one pipe.
