i-vtec controller...

ok...ive heard thru many threads on this site, and other sites, that there is an i-vtec controller out on the market. everyone posts "links" to all these differnet websites, but i cant seem to actually find one. every link ive followed takes me to sites that only have vtec controllers...not i vtec.

A)does anyone here have an ivtec controller on one of our cars?
B)is it worth the buy in your opinion?
C)where did you get it? how much, etc?

i have an 02 si...and i want a vafc (i guess it would actually be an i-vafc...)

let me know...thanks

I would wait for Apex-i to come out with the new vtec controller...that power enterprises controller doesn't have half the features the vafc has.

supposedly the VAFCII will support ivtec. anyone want to confirm this for me?

and yeah, you wont "feel" the vtec persay in an 03Si. its Ivtec...which means no traditional burst of Vtec power. instead its spread out over your rpm range. i have noticed, however, that when im pushing my car kinda hard, i can feel little bursts of torque and power. kinda turns me on..... anyone else notice this too?

Yes, I've heard that the VAFC2 will handle i-Vtec.

YES!!

Millhouse14: as far as "feeling" the i-VTEC kick in, how can you NOT FEEL the huge amount of torque as you fly through the gears? My god man, this car has power all over the place! Would you rather just feel the power only at 5500 rpm? I have a 03 Si and my brother had a 99 Si, and his 99Si didn't have near the power on the low end side that the 03 has, you had to rev it up to at least 5000 rpm to get the feeling of the power the 03 Si has at 3000 rpm.

you don't feel the sensation of VTEC engaging because the K20A3 has VTEC-lite. it operates like the old VX versions of the EG hatch. below 2200 rpm, the A3 operates essentially as a 12-valve engine, opening only one intake valve fully. this creates a swirling motion and makes for a better A/F mixture ... thus lowering idling emissions.

above 2200 rpms, the A3 goes back to normal 16-valve operation. there is no VTEC mechanism on the exhaust valves ... no high lift and duration lobes on the intake valves. meanwhile, the K20A2 gets "real" VTEC, like what you would feel in a B16A2.

the VAFC2 will control your VTEC-lite engagement, but you would only be tinkering with the switch from 12-valve to 16-valve operation ... so it doesn't do you much good unless you swap an A2 in there.

the "i" in i-VTEC is for the VTC, which controls the cam angle. i believe this is controlled by the ECU, so a VAFC won't help you there since it's a piggy-back unit.

there's some really good information on the K20 engines on Hondata's Web site. that's where i learned all about this.
