DRIVEN BOTHText!!!!!! (Quite hard, I might add). No question, SVT would win in 3/4 of any competitions. (taking in descrepancies for driving techniques). However, the Si, is much more tame to drive everyday and easier to break out of it's sheepskin. Both are fun, but Ford did a good thing this time. Yup, there does seem to be a heap-gob of recalls on the SVT, but I think my EX had 2-3 or more recalls. I have felt that over the last 5-7 years Honda's QC has not kept up with other's. I also think that Ford has inproved over that same time period. It is funny, and somehow I think it is cyclical. Look at the quality of vehicles each were producing, say, in 1985. BIG DIFFERENCE.

all i have to say is that my sister works for ford and all the talk on the
focus is that there cheaply made, a throw away car as they put it.
they come from the factory with bent frames, alot of them have brake failure.
not a wise choice if you buy one..
just my 2 cents

I would highly doubt that the same teams of engrs. and the like, are still working for Honda today. I would bet it has to do with company profits and cashflow. Why would Honda change anything (i.e., standards and procedures) when they have had a winner or two, on their hands for over 15 years? The Accord and Civic are huge sellers in the US compared to thier cost to build them. Futhermore, for the last 15 or so years they have been bulding the company to become compeditive with other manufactures. I think we forget that Honda Motors isn't even considered when one lists the largest auto manfrs. (Ford, GM, Fuji,.etc.) I do think that we will see a comeback in Honda quality over the next 8-10 years, but it will get worse before it will get better. Honda is not done build and preparing itself to be a huge manufacturer.
As far as the Focus is concerned, Yup they are throw away cars. But, what is considered a throw away car to a team of engineers who's average salary hovers around six figures? In that light, a throw away car would be considered anything with a sticker of less than $20-$25K. A throw away car to normal people, say you and me, would be that damn Rio thing or what I was most familiar with was the Festiva. I do not like it when people talk about how bad one maker is because they know someone who works there. I know people who work at my local Ford and local GM plants here in KC and have heard the horror stories from both. There is no perfect place to work or we would all work there, correct?

Civics are made cheap too
Civics are made cheap too???? During college...I worked my summers at an plant that made parts for both domestic and japanese manufacturers. And I can tell you this. The quality control standards for the japanese companies were FAR more stringent. Half the parts we sent out to a Toyota plant would always be sent back because of their standards. The domestic companies on the other hand....let all sorts of crap slide. That experience right there fortified my respect for imports.
ST170 in the UK is North America's RS. The UK RS will probably not come over here and you would be owned big time if it did. 213hp, LSD, Turbo, and more goodies than I can list!!
The Dodge SRT4 however will be here.....215hp and 240ft/lbs coming to a stoplight near you!

RS is the be-all-end-all Focus, probably the best compact FWD you can buy for the money along with ITR. CTR doesnt measure up to RS, period.

Very true, if any of you wanna see this RS beast in action, I suggest you go to www.ephatch.com and look up the CTR vs. WRX vs. Focus RS. I won't ruin it anymore than the individual who posted it, but let's just say the one most us Civic drivers DON'T want to win, wins. BTW- The RS is turbocharged pushing over 200 hp.

Honda did start using a bunch of new engineers. I have an EX civ but, the Civic coupe was designed in the US, the Sedan in Japan, that explains the different lights, and the fact that coupes have a less agressive windsheild, along with 2" lower interior height than 2000.
Both cars are almost the same. However the focus would win, just barely though. Design wise I feel the Si has a better design, however the engine could use more power and more torque. The focus is a virtual carbon copy of the 6th Civic hb. Ford must have seen that hatches sold well for Honda so they decided to implement it in the Focus product line. Before the Focus there were not too many Ford hb except the Festiva and a old model escort.
