type r rumors

has anyone heard of any other "assumed" confirmations on the civic type r coming over? Honda Tuning said they heard maybe in 03. Saving for an RSXs right now and would opt for the civic R instead. Just want to hear some input.

I'm wondering if they will bring it in to fit the Prelude's old market, but I doubt that with the new V6 Accord coming out. If Honda wants to compete in the sport compact segment, they almost have to bring it to us. I still believe that both of the Type-R's are coming to North America, but the CTR's prospects are actually a little more promising as of right now. Hopefully they'll skip out on the moonroof and all the other little weight-adding pieces that they put on the Si. All we can really do is wait and see if Honda of America makes the announcement.

by bringin those cars over would kill the sales and values of the current versions of those cars on the market right now
i dont think they would do it, it would be a stupid financial move
but i wish they did

It wouldn't kill the sales, at least not for the SIs. I don't know the actualy sales number, but it looks like through talking with many people that the new SIs just are selling well, and not meeting Honda's expectations. Again I don't know for sure, thats what I just heard.

but the Type Rs can come over to both RSX and Si, its just which platform would prove more profitable.

For me it would have to be more affordable.

A Civic Type R selling more then the current SI (19,000) and if its in the range of $22,000. I would much rather have the RSX-Type S.

And if the sales are SIs are true, then putting it as a limited edition probaly won't be as good either.

For Acura, sales for the Type S have been good, and bringing in the Type R as a limited edition, much like they did before with the GSRs to the Type R. And I think that will sell well.

So for me, I would like a Civic Type R to come down but be priced at the same as the current SI (Highly doubtful)

And Acura bring in their RSX - R as a special limited edition with probaly a price of $25,000.

Highly doubt it, Honda has a thing about keeping things underwrap till they are about coming out. So, the dealerships themselves don't know. Also, the market wouldn't support the CTR. I could see the ITR(well, RSX-R) introduced but not the CTR. First off, the Si is not popular enough and introducing a CTR would only take sales away from the current Si and from the RSX-S. Thus, not a wise financial move on Honda's part. However, introducing a limited production RSX-R would be a better financial move. Currently, it wouldn't be competiting with any other honda/acura models and would be in a league of its own. They introduced the ITR before and the public is aware and more knowledgeable of the car. I hope they at least bring one of the Type Rs to North America!

A guy on ephatch with a Euro Civic R posted how much his went for, converted to US was like $25k. With dealer markup your prob not gonna find one for under $23k AT LEAST, if they even come out.

I think the ITR(RSX type R) is still more likely to come here than the CTR. I hope it does eventually! The CTR would compete with and hurt the sales of the RSX-S.

probably, but you have to keep in mind, that a CTR is somewhat stripped down, not as many luxury items, an RSX-S would be much more luxurious. With Leather, Auto Climate control, Moonroof, Bose system, etc... I would hope that a CTR would be somewhat barebones, built more for the track than the street. making it excellent for AutoX.

If Honda brought over the CTR, and it just happens to sell more than the Si (well, most likely it would IMO) then you can kiss the Si goodbye. The "Si" is labeled as our performance Civic. Honda would stay with whatever brings them more cash. It would be a financial risk. A CTR could possibly ruin the image of the Honda Civic we have here.

The new Si is selling just like the older Si up to this point... nobody is buying them. At least not a lot of people. The 99-00 Si is selling more now than it did when it was released.

The Integra/RSX is no different but there's more of a positive. We've had an ITR here before and the RSX is looked at as a sporty car (which the Civic is not...). To expect another Type R would be natural considering what that car became here in 97,98,00,01. Downside is that Acura doesn't wanna ruin their Type S sales for the fact that "Type S" represents Acura's line of performance. In a way, I can see how that would not work out. If you compare a Type R to the Type S at the same time, you get more from one, and less from the other. If the Type R came priced right (at a price we most likely won't like) then maybe it'll keep the Type R sales from interfering with the Type S. What do you think?

From what I know, this car can be street-happy. It has to appeal to some people on the street than on the track so it can sell to those people who are interested in the car but don't know much about it. Isn't handling a bit better on the CTR than it is on the ITR?

Never driven a ITR but my CTR handles like a dream...

Been getting up one hour earlier to drive 80 km instead
of 3 km to work since i got it...
