original owner, high mileage civic, is it worth it?
hey everyone. my quest continues to find my first civic. as stated on my earlier posts i'm looking for a clean 5th gen civic coupe and i happened to catch a craigslist ad with a 95 civic ex coupe with automatic transmission. the add states that it's still owned by the original owner. the pictures provided in the ad show that the car is incredibly clean in and out. but the only problem is that the car has 170,000 miles on it. he is asking $2,500 and just lowered it to $2,300 today as i saw another another add for it, he is posting ads like crazy for it, he posted it around five times today and about 8 times yesterday.do you think this means he really wants it out? what do you guys think about it? i wonder how much lower i can offer him? being that i live in so-cal cars are a bit more expensive so please keep that in mind when giving me some input. i will add a few pics of the car.
thanks for your time and input

It's a nice looking car.
Never hurts to take it to a mechanic before you commit to anything.
I just bought a car and I determined it's true value by searching Kijiji for similar cars across Canada and cross referenced with Kelly Blue Book MSN.
Ultimately I really needed a car so I didn't check it out as much as I could have and I paid a good dollar for it. It's always a bit of a crap shoot sometimes you just got to jump in a worry about things later.

Dude, I'm totally freaked out by the Christmas decorations and it looks like Summer. Reminds me of the year I left the Christmas tree up all year. I kept putting it off, then it was Christmas again. lol. What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. Back to the car... Test drive will tell you whether the tranny is bad or not. Tranny rebuild is at least $2000. During the test drive take it to the mechanic. Doesn't look like a bad deal IF the tranny is decent.

You can grab the v/n # off it too and carfax or call the honda dealership. I just did that and they could tell me if all the recalls had been done. I'm sure if you asked the right way you could find out more.
