Why a honda civic? Why?
Why a honda civic? Why?
People have made some points to me and I'm deciding if i should invest in my civic or not...
They say why a civic, its engine sucks, 1.7l .... even if you throw a turbo in it will still lose to most other performance cars...in the end its just not a performance car, and if its an automatic then it really isn't good to put things into. So i ask you why civic? why not save up for a better car then invest in a civic?

Because with the right suspension products, it's fun to drive.. Plus my gas mileage rivals that of many hybrids, even when I had a turbo on it.
Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
Civics are slow period. You have to invest way too much into them to get them to even be quick. They are good for gas mileage, reliability, and they can handle quite well. The only thing I would put money into, in a civic, is the stereo and maybee some suspention. But not the engine. Front wheel drive is just a bad platform for racing to begin with. If you did get good power you would never get it to the ground.
My advice is, get something else if you want to go fast!

Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
I LOVE my Civic. Idk what everyones take on "fast" is. I think they mean a car isnt fast unless it can do a 10sec 1/4 mile!! Civics can be quick and handle amazing with the right parts and still be economical as mentioned by "riceboy". If your looking for a racecar that will beat a fully built mustang on the track..then no...a Honda is not for you. But....if your looking for a quick, fun, yet econmical car...then a Honda should suit you just fine. My Civic is great to drive everyday...and still has the get up and go I need to have fun. IM PROUD TO BE A HONDA OWNER FOR THE 2ND TIME!!

You are right they are fun to drive and handle well. They just have no ***** and the cost it takes to give em ***** is not worth it. If you want to go fast do it the old fashioned way: put a big engine in a little car, it will be much cheaper in the end.

You planning on tracking your Civic? (Gods forbid) Street racing it?
You're not one of those folks who treat h.p. like a dick measuring contest, are you? lol
Yes, the 1.7 sucks as far as typical performance. But who cares?!
If you're on a beer budget.. you don't get Champagne.

Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
I was watching a nopi tunervision thing a long time ago on spike TV and they showed a honda team vs. a nissan team. The honda team had a bunch of turbo'd and n/a civics, and the nissan team had a bunch of sr20 swapped 240's.. The honda team had the faster average lap time and thus won the little contest they had... Just sayin..
Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
Honda's last forever, they have tons of parts available, they don't cost a lot to buy, fun to drive, and they look good. Same reason people buy a Miata. You can buy a Mustang but it will handle like crap and wont last 100k miles, My Dad has a 92 Hatchback with 400k on it and it still runs, and never broke down.

Haha this sounds good, thanks guys...btw I wanna get a factory spoiler or at least I think, i dont know how low they are but I want one like 4 inches high idk,I need websites though!

Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
Just to throw in my 2 cents... a civic is useless for anything other than a DD. I owned a boosted EM2, suspension work, lots of money and time. My fiance bought a bone stock 91, no *****, 1.6L miata and that car was 10x more fun to drive than my 225 HP boosted civic. And on top of that, it's RWD, capable of 500 turbo HP and whipping just about any stock car imaginable out on a track. Guess what car is sitting in my driveway disassembled right now with a forged motor going under the hood. Keep the civic, buy a thousand dollar miata and enjoy having real potential.

My friend has a '77 280z+ LS1 w/6 speed. I am sooo jealous. Although I'm not jealous of the price tag-$14,000 and rising.

40+mpg on the highway and good looks makes it worth every penny. you dont always have to race around the streets. the civic interior looks more expensive than many luxury cars ive been in. and civics are easy to work on. take a look at some of the newer cars, theyre a nightmare and some of them you will spend hours just changing spark plugs.

Re: Why a honda civic? Why?
Other than my motorcycles, I also own a Toyota Tundra, but this little Civic is a pleasure to drive around. I really like it.
Does great on gas, and the fact that parts are cheaper than most other vehicles makes this a great buy.
But like the other guy said, I wouldn't really invest tons of money trying to make this car go faster. Instead, I'd invest money in trying to make this car last longer and save me MPG.
