My civic has started hesitating badly when accelerating. It used to only be noticeable when I was low on gas, but now it hesitates under all circumstances. It also takes 5-6 seconds for the engine to turn over.
When I accelerate, it seems to lunge and surge, and there is an overall loss of power. This is especially noticeable when I punch the gas. I hadn't had any problems at lower speeds until yesterday when I was returning to my apartment. I was stopped at a red light, and when it turned green, I tried accelerating very slowly and the engine sputtered a view times and then died on me. It is an automatic with a vtec.... I know absolutely nothing about cars, so if you have any questions that may help in the diagnosis, I will do my best to answer them. These problems are making my car undriveable, so any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Guess I should have mentioned it only has 60K. I had my friend ride with me who is training to be a mechanic and he said that without taking a look under the hood, he would guess a couple of things. 1) Bad spark plugs. 2)Clogged fuel injectors.

Could be spark plugs.... Does it still start? Does it jerk when it shifts?

My cousins 01 civic that was running 7lbs of boost did the same thing we spent around $5000 for the car to be fixed at the speed shop, and still no luck, we tried the ECU and it worked fine try switching your ecu

change the plugs. if it is not the plugs you will have new ones. go to a automotive store and try some lucus fuel and injector cleaner. you let your gas get low enough to the gas light comes on, poar in the lucus and top it off with the highest octane they have at the gas station you go to. try that and see if it helps and let us know.

i had similar problems recently. i reset the ECU and it feels a lot better. if it still feel sluggish perhaps trying the solutions posted.
