Newb to civics, hate to ask but... b18c upgrades?

Ok, so I've never owned a honda before. I came from DSMs, VWs and rx-7s. If you'll note, all those are turbos.... Sigh.

Anyhow, I've finished putting together a b18c GSR swap 95 coupe. The motor and tranny were in the car already. I did alot of wiring and cleaning, and putting **** back together. More or less, I picked up a car that someone fit a motor into and walked away from.

Tonight, I went racing and I was really impressed with the b18c and vtec. However, I need just a LITTLE more power. Where do I start? and the goal is <300 bucks.

I'd love to turbo it, but everything I've read all night has said no, 11.5 to 1 compression and all. So where do I get more all motor power out of this b18c?

I have the CAI and I put together a high flow, still legal, exhaust. Where do I go from here? Is there an ecu flash or anything available like VWs and Audis? I'm looking for something like 20hp for <300. Is this possible?

I've spent a few hours searching but I can't sift through the crappy posts by sixteen yr olds who want to "pimp my civic out." I don't mind removing anything, so long as I can keep the block in the car. I'm a pretty good mechanic so go ahead and lay some heavy ideas on me.

I'm going to sleep, hopefully when I wake up I'll have some ideas from the civic gods and forum members!

Thanks in advance.

OH, and I swear my tranny code is s4? All I know is the gearing is really short, I mean really short. I'm doing 70 at 4500 rpms. What tranny do I have? What is it out of?

Thanks guys.

well you can work on upgrading the ignition system. get some good quality spark plug wires (nology hotwires maybe) and some denso iridium plugs. the problem with more all motor power is it usually requires building the engine. theres only so much simple boltons will do. you can also start using fuel and oil additives from lubecontrol.com to slowly clean out the motor and restore lost hp. theres no telling what shape that old motor is in.

Ok thanks! What types of ignition sys. are people running? I just did plugs and wires per your recomendation. Is head work out of the question? I'd assume its about as ported and balanced as it could be?

i think MSD modules are pretty popular. i dont have alot of experience cause the newer civics all you direct coil ignition with no wires, just coil on plug design. head work is really expensive to start, and thats not including all the labor to swap the head. you could end up spending $1-2k just for that. i would leave the engine alone and work on small cheap mods and see if you notice a difference.
