Car shakes when starting from first gear, in cold weather.

First, I know nothing about mechanics so please bear with my ignorance. The clutch skaes when starting from neutral to first gear. It's just like if I didn't know how to drive a stick, but it happpens only in cold weather. Sometimes the clutch even shakes whe shifting from first to second. What could this be? Do clutches need maintenance?

My instincts tell me that your clutch release is not fully releasing. You may have a sticky clutch. Do this test. Place your car in an level open space and pull the e-brake. Place the the transmission in the highest gear and rev up the car and release the clutch, if the car stalls then the clutch is okay and is not sticky or slipping. If the the car tries the run then you have a bad clutch. during this test the car will stall just if the clutch is working correctly then it should stall pretty quick, if not the car will attempt to take off then stall. If not the clutch I think it might be the sincronizers going bad in the tranny, between the first and second or the reverse neutral.
