I just recently bought a 96 honda civic DX hatchback. Me n my friend have been calling it an "ek9" but one day we were watching some youtube videos and came across a video with a so called "ek9" but someone had posted a comment saying it was actually an ek3 or ek4 (cant really remember what it said) which left me in question if i was right calling my car that n it led me 2want 2 know more about my little civic. I dont want to be looking like that guy so i was wondering if anyone knew how to distinguish the difference between these two. im not sure if the ek3 or ek4 thing is real but i know that the front bumper is different from my civic and the type-R. the type-R has two "Slits" if you can call them that, on the sides n mine doesnt. I was thinking the ek9 was accually the Type-R. but i really have no clue. thats just my guess. can anyone help? i dont want to be calling it an ek9 if it really isnt that. its got a d16 engine if that helps at all. thanx

read ur vin number on the dash, there should be a 1hg or 2hg, then the code of ur car, mine reads 1hges1, hence mine being an es1, run with that, and let us know what u find out

That will explain it all and you don't have an ek9 you have an ej6. Technically if you have a 6th gen civic hatch thats usdm it will never be an ek (People just call them ek). There's alot more info on what models had exactly what on honda-tech. Search around if you want to know more.

EK9 is JDM code
EJ6 is USDM code

but everyone calls their the EK9 in the new JDM trend, so why not lol. I tell people I drive a Civic Ferio, and all I get is "a civic fairy?? wtf?"

I found out mine is actually a ej6. now i wont look like a dumb *** n sound smart when i make an argumment!

Yea but if you call it an EK9, youll get JDM points
