Hey just wondering if any one might know if the gas regulator might have something to do with it. I have a 97 civic 4 door

i smell it when i start my car after i drive it parked its pretty much a constant gas smell.I checked the fuel pump to see if it was on right or tight it was.

fuel pump is located under the spare tire in the trunk is that what you checked?it could be a leaking fuel feed or return line and or fuel injection system maybe the evap system is clogged.. any engine codes?

mine being a hatchback it could have been the pump you checked..not familiar with the 4 doors but if its above your gas tank then sure. but it could be as simple as just a loose or leaking hose somewhere. any spots on the ground? do you lack performance?

no it doesnt it a 5 speed if that makes a difference. Man i hate having a car especially an older one

Prolly smashin the car so hard, u dont even notice a change in performance....

But anyways, drive it around for a while, then park it, look under the car and see if anything drips (oh, and dont use the AC)

And does it smell exactly like gasoline? (Like if you were standing at a gas station?)
or does it smell like OIL? (something like burning rubber smell)
Could be a gasket, or something in the exhaust if it's oil

ha ha ahh no and yes it smells like gas fumes strong by the rear driver side its really getting to me i cant figure it out

Might be a gas leak, either by a crack, or loose hose or something
Check for drips

also, do u notice your gas mileage lowering?

What everyone suggested is right on, did you check that stuff?? I wouldn't take it to the shop because it might be really simple. Check the transparent hose connected to the evap canister, it is the black "can" under the fuel filter. But you need to determine if the smell is coming from under the hood or inside the cabin.

If it's under the hood, check the fuel filter, fuel rail (injectors attach to it), the return hose, what not.
