my check engine light came on today and im assuming its because i need an oil change (first one with new civic) anyways tomorrow im driving to sacramento about 55miles from here, just wondering if my car will be able to make it without burning anything up. probably numb question but im paranoid when it comes to gas/oil running low

if it is the check engine light and not the main regd/service reqd light I would get it checked out to be sure. Any autozone will scan the the code for free. It could be 1000 things.

yes, is it the check engine or maint. required light.... big difference, you cna rest the maintance required light yourself, the check engine liht needs a scanner to read it.

if it's the check engine light, that has NOTHING to do with your oil. you need to find out what DTC code is coming up ASAP.

i'm pretty sure honda checks engine lights for free while the car is under warranty, or for a certain time period after you buy it. i'd avoid autozone to get the code checked. i've had them give me misinformation many times in the past, and even wrong codes. maybe i just got unlucky, but i'd still say take it to honda. especially if the car is fairly new, they shouldnt give you any troubles on checking an engine light.

heh, you'd be surprised. some dealerships will say it's under warranty, but then they'll pull the code, and let's say it's the evap code where the gas cap isn't on tight enough. guess what, they'll charge you since it was user error. or if there's no trouble found they'll charge you.

in other words, take it to autozone or whatever and ask to use their scanner.
