vtec-e

Just wondering since we have the vtec-e which stands for economy vtec, i was wondering how much the vtec actually helps with saving gas. Kinda wish i would have got a hybrid now, but if i drive super conservative i am definitely satisfied with the fuel consumption. anyways post opinions about vtec-e and also when does it engage, im almost 100% sure it kicks in at 3 rpm

VTEC-e is the same exact thing as in the VTEC in the EX model. The cam is slightly different grind, that's about it.

As for wishing you had a Hybrid, don't wish that. Since you are asking about VTEC-e, I am assuming you have an HX civic. They cost aorund $13k, a Hybrid costs around $20k, that's a $7,000 differance. My aunt get 50 MPG in her HX, hybrids get 60 MPG highway, if you do the math, you have to drive 420,000 miles with gas prices at $5 per gallon just to break even between the 2 cars. If you are looking to save money, the HX is the way to go.

Not to mention (and this just my personal opinion) that the hybrids are a new technology, they have not been perfected yet (I'm better there are still a few bugs to be had) and nobody really knows how much the replacement batteries are going to cost.

Oh yeah, to answer you engagment question it kicks in at the same point as normal VTEC.

The big gas savers on the HX are the 1. light weight, 2. really tall gearing, and 3. lean burning fuel maps.

Yeah, okay my bad lol

Hum, VTEC engages at different point depending on throttle postion. It can engage around 3200 RPM at WOT (I think, maybe 3400, somewhere around there) or engage as late as 3800 RPM at a more conservitive thrttle postion.

But yes, both car have VTEC-e...

Let me find the link to the VTEC thread....

How VTEC works

http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...1&page=1&pp=40

VTEC really doesn't save much on gas, maybe a tad, but not much. It's really just a way to push more power out of an engine with out haveing to dump more fuel in all the time.

pushing more power without using gas is saving though lol but anyways, i never feel it kick in until after 3 rpm.. then it always has that little extra "push" and it gets smooth .. sorry im kinda vtec happy right now

Not quite a ITR (integra Type R) but they are close. GSR has the engine B18C1 with 170 hp and a tad more torque than the ITR. Also the ITR is one up on the suspension, but the GSR is no slacker. But I do have a 8000 RPM redline. In other words, it just a step below the ITR, where I work an ITR would be stolen and stripped in a day. As it is I've taken all the badging and rims off the GSR to make it look like a normal teg.

Also, mine is old and used, 130k miles only paid $3800 for it though, and hey it a Honda, it'll have another 70k left easy. All thoguh I'm hoping for 170k, but I'll take what I can get. It's a fun car to drive, no doubt.

What ?!?! No, only the HX and EX have any form of VTEC. go here, look at the valve train type, can't refute the facts laid down by Honda themselves: http://www.hondanews.com/CatID2015?m...43094&mime=asc

Ex's have vtec-e. It doesn't have regular vtec like the H22, or B18. I know it doesn't mention that on the honda website, but the Ex's do actually have vtec-e.

btw, Jrfish007, do you even own a 7thgen with a vtec engine??

I owned a '03 Civic EX MT (when my dad's Accord finally died at 228,000 miles, I gave that car to him) and I currently have an '04 Civic EX AT (but I let my fiance drive it, although she likes my truck better now). So yes, I've owned 2 of them, and my current GSR is my 7th Honda, in other words yes
