Beneficial or cosmetic

I have seen headlights that have a tint on the glass housing giving the glass a darker appearance. my question is is there some sort of actual benefit to doing this or is it just a cosmetic addition. also does this lessen the amount of light produced by the headlamps?

another question i have is for fog lights. i have seen cars with yellow fog lights on the bottom and was curious whether this was beneficial or cosmetic as well?

Re: Beneficial or cosmetic

cosmetic for both. any type of tint will reduce the light output. while our eyes see green/yellow as the brightest visible light color, the yellow tint required to produce that color of light will take away some of the lumens.
