Oh mylanta! Definitely get a circular saw (or some sort of electric saw of some sort) while doing this. I'm using a handsaw and it hurts! It was only $8 (Stanley brand), and the circular saws were only $50, but I figured if I bought it I wouldn't be using much of it after the trunk was done...

yeah i used a hand scrolling jigsaw. cut and shaped while doing it. with mdf will take some time.

how could i do the carpet with a regular fabric from Michaels, how thick should it be?

Anything is fine, as long as you can glue it onto the wood. Just use staples to hold the edges and use any fabric you want. Try to keep to less than 1/4 inch thick if possible. Preferrably 1/8"

hey i tried to something similar but underneath my carpet there's foam pieces and the one to the right of my spare tyre is missing so i can't lay the mdf flat. how'd you do it? you got one of those skinny spare tyres? I dunno where to get that piece of foam from

I ended up doing a completely different custom wooden floor trunk, still with spare tire access. I'll be posting progress pictures after the weekend.

Yeah that's a nice twist, the way the doors open up. Can you get to your spare still?

I forgot to mention, I didn't end up putting hinges on mine, so the panel just lifts up to get to the spare. I only used 3/4" MDF on the part holding the sub box. The rest of it is 1/2" OSB. I didn't really think i need the extra strength/weight of MDF, plus I had enough OSB laying around. I used some felt that picked up from the craft store @ $5/yard, so this was a really cheap DIY. I also used a thin board to rest the front of the sub box on so it would sit more level since the back of the sub box is resting on that raised strip of metal where the back seats meet the trunk floor. You should see how bowed the OEM board is that I removed! POS

Yup the wheel is still accessible, just got to remove the other stuff and there is just enough room to stick my arm in to unscrew the wheel and pull it out. I used all 1/2in. MDF and it seems to be holdin up great. I wanted to mount my amp on the right side but couldnt figure out a way for it to work right. I'm happy with how it is tho

Nice DIY my friend. Mine buckled and was looking for something like this. Also i had a full rear quarter replacement so all of my felt was tore up so thanks for the project.

Not sure you can see the buckle but you can definitely see all the fabric just hanging around.

This is great seeing this still used. I've since helped another friend with a similar project, and we basically did this all over again.

As an aside, updated my car in my sig now that the Lotus is gone (but missed).
