BTW... a DX/LX with a an EX head benefits all other models when boosted... a DX/LX boosted has an advantage over EX cause the DX/LX has lower compression... the EX boosted benefits over the DX/LX cause it has the vtec lobes open up to let more air in.. so take the low compression of the DX/LX models and combine that with the EX vtec lobes for more air and u got a winning combination...
as for me i will be getting a turbo in the next 2 weeks so i can post some results in a within the next month

so I've read all of the messages and people keep on adding stuff so can someone tell me all the parts I need to do the swap? I really want to do this swap that would be great. This has just become the next thing on my list to do so I want to start collecting all the parts I need so just let me know please. Thanks

Complete EX head with vtec solenoid
EX head gasket
thats all u need to do that.. and the DIY explains the whole thing and very simple setup to get going
but if you want to do it the other harder way you will need
EX ECU and wire harness
EX complete head
EX head gasket
now this way is similar in the setup in my DIY but i found out that after everything is installed u have to tow car down to the dealer and have them reflash the ecu and ur key so u can start the car... another side note is that the DX/LX does not have the wiring for the vtec in the harness which connects to the ecu hence which is why u need the EX wire harness.... this is also harder cause u gotta have someone wire the harness into ur car..

hey x, is it true that the ex tranny is better than the dx/lx. cause i was talking to a local speed shop about doing this head swap myself. and they said something about the ex's tranny has shorter gears, i guess so when you shift you stay in vtec. dont know, just seeing if anyone else knew why they said that. btw...good kill list. have you ever raced '00+ celica gts? j/w. later.

the ideal setup if you go turbo is
ex head
dx/lx bottom end
if you go n/a then
ex head
ex bottom end
now as for tranny goes it all is up to you...
based on what i know(but i could be wrong so dont quote me on this) is that the ex and dx/lx has the same 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.. just the 4th 5th and final gear ratio would be different....
im gonna be boosted in about a week so i would rather have the longer gears but idealy if you go n/a then u want shorter gears.. just depends on what you wanna do and how u drive and what your main focus is for

everything is pretty much bolt on and play... just gotta wire the vtec solenoid and ur set.. just make sure u have just a tad bit more oil in there cause the extra oil will be running into ur ex head to the solenoid.. as far as wiring goes u dont need the ex wire harness unless u have and are planning on doing and getting a few things
1.u need ecu especially if u dont want to use the vafc2 to control vtec
2.the dx/lx isnt wired with the vtec so u basically gotta pull the old wiring out and put in thte new one if u wanna use the ecu.. and yada yada.. i pretty much tried explaining this in the past few posts...
but other than that the car is running great... pulled the head and solenoid to check it and its running fine... one thing u might want to do after the head swap if u use a vafc2 is to get it tuned.... when vtec kicks in the ecu doesnt add more fuel like the Ex ecu does.. but one thing good about using the vafc2 is u can control it to turn on the same time all the time.... and its either on or off and none of this 3 stage thing other people are talking about

I know I have asked this awhile ago but when you say ex complete head do you mean ex head, camshaft, valve springs, retainers, cam, gasket? or is that too much stuff? I asked that awhile ago but I still wasn't sure because you said complete ex head.
thanks

complete head...cause in the ex head everything internal is different from the dx/lx stuff.. i mean if you want to u can try but u should be able to get the complete head for fairly cheap... if u shop around u can even get the whole ex engine for as cheap as $500.. unless u plan to upgrade the head parts.. u know springs retainers cam and stuff... then u dont need the stock ones... just make sure if you order upgrades that its for the EX cause u got the ex head now..
500.oo
yeah i got the total engine for 500.00 i can get a few more for around this price msg for info i'll give you the number and the guy to talk to he said he had a few left. they are in ct waterbury area so shipping may cost some loot but hey if you want to take a road trip its good. lol i have the ex egr if any one needs it taking b/o for it i will be dynoing mine as soon as the fly wheel and clutch gets here so we can put the motor in and can get more pics also
