Pics from Last autox/road course event
The last auto-x that I was to was a really neat event that used almost an entire 1+ mile road course as an auto-x course. Cones were placed in areas to keep speeds low (I still hit 70+) and help with the right lines. I would recomend this type of thing to anyone who is interested in transitioning into road raceing because it is a great learning experience and a slow transition. There were only 2 minor accidents in which cars made contact with the wall. Check out the pics (I did not take them, and honestly don't know who did)

What track is that? And how can anyone hit a wall doing an autocross? Sorry, but if anyone's wrecking cars doing autocross, someone didn't set the track up right. If you're going over 70, that means corvettes are doing well over 90 and thats asking for it. No offense to whoever ran it, but someone needs to re-think their course planning.
^^^we only got 3 runs
. The track is called Waterford Hills and it is in Michigan http://www.waterfordhills.com/. I have a K swap so that is why I was at 70. My buddy with a Legacy STI swap (runs mid 12s) was hitting around 80, and I doubt that anyone was going faster except for the shifter carts and they were ripping (I was working the track). The bigest problem was slowing the course without making it dangerous. The longest strait I could have hit around 120+ if there were no cones, well they put two slaloms on that strait. The problem was is that if anyone messed up there was no run off. Working the track was also hard because of the distance everyone had to cover. I drove very conservative (after seeing two people hit walls) and got 10th out of around 20 or so people in the SM class. I think that I could have placed top 5 if I would not have been afraid of crashing. The race did require atleast 6 previous auto-xs. The thing that I thought was dumb was that after there was a wreck they would slightly alter the course. Talk about increasing your liablility.

Ahh, up in Michigan... this seems to be a popular thing to do up there. They do this at Gingerman up on the west coast too.... That track is just inherently safer than waterford because there's so much runoff, but typically they do a good job quelling the speeds with chicanes and/or chicago boxes. Slaloms don't always help slow people down once the speed gets up there, and sometimes all they do is throw the car out of whack.... its quite a bit safer to force someone to slow waaaay down in a straight line to make the exit corner from the straight rather than take a car out of a slalom and make it before the wall.
it was next to the wall and people were getting lose and ending up into the wall
. Yes Gingerman has alot more runoff than this track. Don't know if you looked at the link, but hill top will make you a bit nervous.
here is a vid that I found of an MR2 that pushed it a bit harder than I was willing to. This is a sub 70sec run, which was a good time
