Track day was a blast!

i went to the Streets of willow just yesterday and boy did i have fun. i passed an s2000, gsr intergra and a 240sx. that s2k was driving like a granny. the gsr...well he had good suspension setup and well... the engine, but managed to stay in his rear mirrors. There was also two different occasions with two different wrx, after 1/2 lap, they were no where to be found on my rear view mirror (no not because passed me haha). same with the 240, bmw, gsr, evo and....idunno thats it. considering that was my frist track event, i felt i did great. well not that great managing my tires, but thats next time. i was pushing my car passed limits that i have never done in my life.... after my 2nd run session, the side walls on my front tires was GONE and the treads in the middle was sloped up like a shark fin from all the understeer. but i learn alot about my car and racelines. one thing for sure.... GET A CAMBER KIT. very important. i think i'm gonna invest in those asap haha. anyways, i'll post some shots up later.

Overdriving is never good. Also you should have been able to do a little by raising the tire pressure to keep the tire from rolling over like that. Overdriving is bad. Redoing the alignment will also help tremendously as negative camber is good. Overdriving is bad.

If anything, probably drop tire pressures because as heat starts to build up, the tire pressures will go up as well. Grip assocated to tire pressures is always a bell curve. There's a point where any additional pressure will acctually result in a decrese of grip. That's why I run my victoracers at 28 PSI cold.

well, i got an alignment day before. 0 toe all around, .4 camber in front(i think) and for the rear 1.0 on left 1.8 on right. haha next thing i'm getting for sure is a camber kit. umm as for the pressure, i asked my mech. to put 35 all around. when i got to the track, it was 38. after the day it was 40. temperature the whole day was about 60 degrees, so it was pretty cold (for a desert in SoCal haha) umm yeah, but i did overdrive the first few runs, but then took it easy the rest of the time and focused on my lines. you guys can look at my specs. i only have eibach sportlines. i was thinking either camber plates and arm then konis, on on a budget and was thinking camber would be more important. my stock shocks are still in great condition, my car isnt bouncy...yet and i never abused them on the roads. anyways let me know what you guys think i should invest in next.

Buy Konis and camber crap together. But I'd buy the rear arms and Konis together. You should have ended up with more camber in the front just from the drop, thats odd you only wound up with -.4 deg of camber (I'm assuming all those numbers are actually negative).
Camber plates are a godsend as it keeps the geometry between the knuckle and strut the same, rather than changing it.

Yea, but the nice thing is that if you're pushing the outer limits of the amount of neg. camber you can acheive (I know, my spelling sucks), camber bolts can help get that last little bit without affecting toe.

yeah i really want the camberplates, i know that there are ground control, hotchkis, tein...blah. but for the hotchkis, i missed up on that crazy *** sale, and yeah i dont know how they will fit koni's. boil, i heard you're using tein pillow upper ball mounts? and something about custom work, could you possibly fill me in on that. otherwise a suggestion on good, affordable camber plates. as for the rear arm, i have an idea. and for camberbolts, i really dont wanna mess with those. i hear alignment goes off very quick. and a question about konis, i measure the strut housing and got 55mm, the questions is, do i get the 55mm konis? i'm assuming when they say it's 55m that it is made for the 55mm version and that the strut is not actually 55mm let me know on that. thanks guys, i hope to get some pics up this weekend of my sexy car and all the other pieces of rolling **** hahah, jk

oh and i clocked in at 1:48 during my last few runs, i definatly could have gotten a better time like when i pushed it in the first few runs and ruined my tires. and also... an MR2 spun out in front of me right after the chicane area(chicane=funnest part)...so that slowed me down, damn.

affordable + camber plate rarely happens (unless you fabricat them your self)

other wise your looking at Ground Controls for $230, Hothckiss for $374.95 or K-Mac for ??? (their site is down or something...)

Note that the K-mac camber plates also adjst caster.

Me, I'm acutally modifiying a set of Hotchkiss camber plates to allow for caster adjsutment.

Caster adds in negitive camber on the outside wheel as you turn the wheel... so On a Camber limited strut car such as this, having something that ADDs camber as you turn is a very good thing. Havent tested it, but I'm pretty sure it will help get the car to turn better.

I'm assuming that the blue tape is to protect against stones and whatnot. Why do you have some on the sides of the car behind the front wheels?

He probably put tape there to protect during turning. Think about the direction the wheel sticks out at wheel lock.

streets of willow is known for all the rocks and stones floating around the track. (all the spin outs and "off-roading") sooo..... blue tape keeps from scratchs and stuff... just in case. and if i drive over gravel and stuff full throlling it, i might spin my front wheels and all of the stuff will fly right up, so yes the side is for those cases. as for my head lights.... it's plastic, wont crack, just for looks haha.

the tires don't look *too* bad. Some of that crap is probably tire worms, but thats just what happens with street tires on the track.
Oh and taping the headlights does help, they won't crack, but little pebbles and **** will sandblast the lens. I learned my lesson when I didn't tape them over once. Now I always do it.

I really don't want to go into all the details, it was a big pain in the *** and a total one off. I basically knocked off the ground control upper mount dimensions for the spring seat, then doubled the thickness of the upper mount so I was sure I wouldn't break it, and added the features to allow it to mount to the pillowball. Then I made a new nut that centered the pillowball up and held it all together.
If you can still find Hotchkis plates, its probably the easiest way to deal with it. I would stay away from the GC ones, they're a stupid design (you need to adjust them from underneath), or look into the ones Zzyzx is talking about.

Adding caster increases straight line stability.

And the reason you killed the tires is because you are on Ziex's. I did the same to mine even though it was cold and wet.

is 1:48 your time at SOW? CW or CCW?

my time at SOW for the second time was 01:43.224, top speed of 62.78mph going CCW. CCW is about 2 seconds behind CW. So for your first time, that time isn't bad.

I just got my new(junk yard) D17a2 swapped in today. Yes, I can drive now. I got the urge for "need for speed."

I plan on doing two or three track days with my civic this year since most of my money will be going towards track days for my bikes.

let me know of the next one
