Purty Track Day stuff

Alright... so I went out and played with the Michigan VW owners club today. Lots of fun, lots of fast cars to play with. First of all, I'm quickly discovering this car isn't a track car. 7 minutes in, my oil warning light came on, and screamed at me for the rest of the session for exceeding the 248 deg. Oil Temp limit. It pretty much did that all day.

It actually got more like 271 by the end of the day. Needless to say, I need an oil cooler before I go back out on the track again. Thats waaaaay too hot.
Working on it.
I need 4 new brakes (expected)... I cooked those too, and I'm working on a new set of tires. I've also developed some sort of banging sound when the rear end goes up and down, I think I snapped a weld on an endlink and its bouncing in there. I need to get under the car and look around. Ok, thats all I broke. Here's the fun ****. Are you ready? Cuz he is

The car by day's end

The rotors by day's end

My exhaust got so hot it turned the stainless colored... this was polished silver at 7:30 am

The one that really counts.... The video... get your cable modems ready, its 37meg.... we don't do any of that compressing **** around here. Pay attention to the sound the black Audi wagon makes.... then watch what happens anyways
Video Link - You'll need to go into that folder and click the file MIVE1.mpg to watch it. Right click, save as, conserve Purdue bandwidth. More videos coming.

Pretty well. Running down R32s just can't be done... but 1.8Ts can be. You gotta know how to drive em, just like everything else and I passed quite a few of them despite the HP differential. A light, balanced, well set up car will beat a faster one almost every time. Only 1/4 of the track distance is a dead straight away.

Yeah, those R32s are pretty impressive, despite the fact that they're so damn heavy, the AWD and engine specs are nice, but man are they weighty. Some of the turbo upgrades available for those things are insane though.

sweet, Now on to the questioning...

How was she handling?

and I hate to say this... but with how fast your eating rotors.... it may be a good idea to start looking in to some thing to cool them better... Either ducting or (Gasp) a larger rotor.....

She dances like a pro. I was very pleased and so were the guys I took for rides. I can steer with the brakes and it'll pretty much hold a slight slide through decreasing radius corners. As far as the brakes... I'm trying right now not to fry the motor... so I'm upgrading the oiling system with a 24 row cooler and stuff. I just went ahead and ordered another set of brembo blanks and more Axxis pads, as well as some new Honda shoes. They'll have to do for now. I'll try cooling ducts and pulling the dust shields off first, see if they cool off any. They're not warped, they're just severely grooved, so new rotors should hold out for at least a little while. I'll have to call fast brakes about 11" ITR rotors for this car and see what they can help me with.
