Exclamation 2003 Honda Civic LX Manual Engine Swap Help

Hello fellas I am new to this site. I am currently stuck in a sticky situation. I recently purchased a 2003 Honda Civic LX 5 speed manual with 180k and a check engine light on offer up for $1,500. Vehicle is originally from Texas so it has no rust at all!! Chassis is in great condition. Vehicle is drive able but it needs a engine. I’m currently driving around on the highway normal roads ect ect. Seller told me it needed a tune up. I had the vehicle checked and it looked like one cylinder has 90 psi of compression and the other three are at 150 psi. With this being said it requires a new engine. I currently have a D17 A1 non V-tec. I am looking to swap it with a D17 A engine with V-tec. I have people telling me its a easy plug & play. Then I have other ppl saying it wont work, that it will be come a head ache. I need some advice! at this point I am stuck and don't know what to do!

Re: 2003 Honda Civic LX Manual Engine Swap Help

D17A2 will work, you just have to get a VTEC controller to make use of the VTEC. Or, swap out with a D17A2 ECU, then get your immobilizer programmed. Your choice.

D17A is the japanese analog to the USDM D17A2. Essentially the same engine, but tbh, I'm not 100% sure of actual differences other than what's listed on wikipedia. The -A2 might be more readily available
