Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

I'm new to the site, but a LONG time Honda owner/enthusiast. I just picked up a 97' DX which I bought for dirt cheap and it is my 11th Honda I've owned!!! I went on a 3 year hiatus with an 09' Scion tC which I bought in early 2008. Great car, just not my style...

Personally,I would've kept the tC since it's kinda sporty looking, but the Civic is still a great car.And that Toyota has TRD parts for the tC.

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

The tC was a very nice car! But, I was sick of $400/month payments. I had just about every performance mod that could be done to the tC done,,, besides forced induction... Hondas are simple and easy to work on. Best of all, they are cheap to buy!

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

Damn.$400/month?Aren't tC's only like $18,000?How many months were you paying for?Yes Hondas are easy to work on,but they take a lot of money to go fast. It's just a waste to spend a lot of money on a Civic to make it go fast.Civics were never meant to go fsat.If you own a Type R,well that's another story.

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

I did a 4 year (48 month) loan, didn't put much down, and had a relatively high interest rate. Plus when you buy a car brand new you need to ad the cost of the warranty onto that $18K. So you're actually paying closer to $20K...

Believe me, you need to spend MUCH more to make a tC fast. Bolt-ons yield very little power. Like I said, I had almost everything that could be done. There's a few people with full N/A engine builds and still can't even break 200hp. A tC will never even dip into the low 14's without a turbo or nitrous. Now with a turbo, the tC is a different animal...

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

A turbo'd out tc with everything done (right), not cheaping out, is a freaking beast. It'll scrape so many cars

And trust me, the mods on those things are better than those of a 7th gen civic

At least the 2011 TC has 180bhp compared to my 127 bhp

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

Not arguing the capabilities of a turbo'd tC... I know all about tC's.. I owned one for 3 years, went to almost every meet in my area, and have been a mechanic since I was 17 (now 31). A turbo'd tC "done right" is gonna cost you $5-7K depending on the kit and who does the labor. And it will walk on EVO's/STi's all day... Even if you were to get a used tC, let's say an 06', good condition for $8k. Now you gotta dump another $5-7K into it just to be respectable. At that point I'd rather just get a "real" sports car like an EVO 8, S2k, 350Z, etc... But that's just me. I can make my Civic much faster than my tC for much much less $$$. Sure it's not as nice of a car, but hey, when I'm out of school I'll buy whatever I want!

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

I doubt a tC would beat an EVO or STI.Actually,it's gonna cost way more to make a Civic faster than a tC.The only way is forced induction. And a good forced induction kit is gonna be at least $3,000.I'd take an S2000 over an EVO or STI mainly cause the S2000 is an FR.And a tC and Civic would get whooped on a track racing a EVO or STI.The power of FF understeer is hard to minimize unless you have god driving techniques.

Re: Came back to Hondas after owning a tC

Just go on youtube my friend... There's literally 100's of videos of turbo tC's walking on EVOs/STIs... The 2.4L tC engine is a great platform for forced induction. Even a mild kit (6psi) will put down 260-275whp. But that's neither here nor there. Obviously EVOs/STis are much better cars... I was simply using them as a reference.

Your argument is saying I have to spend more $$$ to make a Civic faster than a tC? Haha! I've owned both! I know the capabilities of both. Please explain to me WHY you think this is so??? Because you're not even getting into the 14s with a tC without nitrous or turbo... Even the TRD supercharged tCs only run low 15s MAYBE a 14.9 with a good driver. There's 3 people in this country with a fully built 2.4L tC engine and even their cars are only running mid 14s. And that's with $10K sunk into just their motors. Scion tCs are NOT an easy car to make fast, they are a low revving torquey car, that weighs 3000lbs.
