About to take the plunge...
About to take the plunge...
Hey everyone,
Just looking to purchase my first car and my first civic! A friend of mine is selling her 2004 civic lx to me for $3000. Seems to be running great from what I can tell but it does have some really km's (270k). I'm wondering if someone here with a 7th gen civic could give me some advice on what I should be checking for. I know the timing belt and clutch were changed in Jan '10. Is there anything specific I should be looking for?
I must say I'm pretty excited about it all. Look forward to chatting with you all more.
Thanks.

Hello
Look for:
Faulty fuel sender (Gas tank reads less gas than is in tank)
Squeaky clutch pedal
Door actuator (locking system in door failing)
These are some main problems with the 7th gen. Hope yours wont. I think she is asking for too much money in my opinion.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely check on those things. What do you think would be a fair price for this car? I'm sure she will be willing to negotiate.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

$3k is too much for an 04? idk, 167k miles is not alot for these cars. and if the trans is still shifting normally, id say youre fine. esp with the t-belt and clutch already being done, thats a great price imo. KBB says that car in good (not excellent) condition is worth around $5k USD private party sale.
