New to Civics,

My wife just bought a 1995 DX Coupe the day before yesterday, and neither of us know squat about Hondas. I have a semi-built 1991 Escort GT, with a slew of mods. Built Ford tough with Mazda stuff!

I have heard of a Mini Me swap, but I don't know which parts I need to be on the lookout for and what gen/model they come from. And info is greatly appreciated since I don't know the first thing about these cars.

Pics to come!

Re: New to Civics,

Haha, I'm already envious of you. I want a 6th Gen SI so bad. A local friend of mine had one many moons ago, and it was the sickest Civ I've ever seen. Would y'all like to see some pics?

Re: New to Civics,

Looks like its in pretty good condition considering its 15 yrs old. Just the normal rust under the hood for the older cars. Just get that cleaned up and it would look good under there. And thats a short ram intake not cold air.

Re: New to Civics,

Oh I don't know the gens yet besides ours is a 5th gen What's a 7th gen look like? Forgive my retardedness, but I have been a Ford faithful for many many MANY years and this is my 2nd car out of the 8 that I have owned that isn't a Ford or Ford product.

Are there any stock mods for the D15B7? And another thing. I am impressed about the 16 valve SOHC. I just wish it were faster :P

Re: New to Civics,

The 7th gen looks like the little pic I have in my signature there. Its kinda hard to tell since it is a pixel car of my car but I have my members ride on here somewhere just go look for it and you will see.

And what kinda mods are you talking bout. There are alot of aftermarket mods out there but it is going to take alot to get that d15b7 to be fast. If you want to go fast then you will need to swap.

Re: New to Civics,

Well I'm really not looking to do much more than a head swap, maybe a PnP, lighter crank, etc. I want to keep the 1.5 block, and work on it. It doesn't need to be 300 hp fast (lol) but at least up to par with my EGT, which is teetering on 140 hp, 126 ft lbs tq. Any suggestions?

***EDIT*** I know where a Vtec 5th gen 1.5 is... What all would it take to make ours V-tec, or at least have O/D?

Re: New to Civics,

Well for real the d15 is going to be hard enough to get to 200 whp without turbo. You can change the head to a vtec head and gain a little, get a header and catback exhaust, more agressive cams, lighter crank, piston, rods. Get higher compression, and tunable ecu.

Re: New to Civics,

Hmm, what is this Mini-me swap I have heard so much about? That's pretty much all I want to do and if she wants to boost it, then I'll scour craigslist for the setup, because there is at least one per week being posted.

Who should I talk to on here that has modded a D15? Are all D series pretty much universal on stock mods?

Re: New to Civics,

The mini me swap is just either swapping the d16y8 or d16z6 vtec head on the d15b7 non vtec. So basically what you was wanting to do lol.

And they are universal NO and YES, it will take a while to explain and would be to long.

Re: New to Civics,

Certain parts fit certain parts kinda thing?

Ok, so I'll make this an easy one to answer (I hope). If I go back and get the Vtec head, what else would I need to get and will the exhaust mani mount up on the Vtec head or will I need to grab that as well? Also does the Vtech intake flow better than the non Vtec intake? Is it still SOHC 16V? I'm a car guy and I love to find out as much as I can before I dive ***** deep in a project.

Re: New to Civics,

At least you're far enough away from there lol, the people from Ft. Bragg (I.E. from everywhere else) can't drive for $h!t. Another reason I'm glad to be out of the Army

That is a GREAT write up, and I can't wait to pull it off. There is an EX at a junkyard about an hour away, I wonder how much he would charge for all the needed parts... What's the gain with this swap, if you know offhand?

Re: New to Civics,

Like I said, I don't want it to surpass my EGT, break even at most. Hers is an Auto, mine is a manual. Hers is a SOHC, mine is a DOHC. But I do want her to have fun driving it. Suspension is another pet peeve of mine, but I don't know where to start :s

Re: New to Civics,

Make sure that you do not drive that auto to hard to. Especially if you put cams and everything in it then switch it to a manual cause the auto will not be able to take it. The auto can barely handle the power its got.

Re: New to Civics,

Any possible means to 'beef it up' so to speak? The G-series Mazda trans (the one in my GT) is prone to failure if driven too hard as well. I want to do a 5-spd swap, but I would like someone to help/supervise that actually knows what to do. I supply the beer!

Re: New to Civics,

Ya there are build kits for the autos but it would really be better just to switch to manual.

Re: New to Civics,

Wish I could find some knowledgeable heads around here to come help assuming I can find parts for it. People around here don't like to come off of Teg/Civ parts. I'm still looking for a P/S fender for Ruby, since the one on there is horribly rusted, and I can't afford to have one shipped.
